6.2 今後の 展望
繰 り 返 し 述 べ て き た 通 り 、 名 詞 複 合 語 の 獲 得 に 関 す る 心 理 言 語 学 的 研 究 は 生 産 的 な 語 形 成 が 許 容 さ れ る 言 語 を 学 習 中 の 子 供 を 主 な 対 象 と し て 、 長 年 に わた っ て精 力 的に行わ れ ている。他 方 、(i) 複合 語 の視覚 情報を捨象 した場 合の結果 の 検証 や 、(ii) 新密 度を考 慮 した刺 激 の考察 、(iii) バイリ ンガル による複合 語の 獲 得 の 考 察 な ど が 本 格 的 に 行 わ れ る よ う に な っ た の は 比 較 的 最 近 の こ と で あ る 。 本 論 文 で は 名 詞 複 合 語 の 獲 得 の メ カ ニ ズ ム の 解 明 を 主 要 な 研 究 課 題 と し て 取り 上げ、心理実験の結果の分析を通して (i)～(iii) の説明 を試み た。最 後に、残さ れ た問 題 と今後の 研 究課題 に 触れて 論 文を締 め くくる 。
ま ず 、 複 合 語 の 産 出 ・ 処 理 の メ カ ニ ズ ム に つ い て 目 を 向 け る と 、 日 本 語 の名 詞 複 合 語 に は 語 彙 性 と 生 産 性 と い う 対 極 の 面 が 存 在 す る た め 、 心 理 実 験 を 行う 際 や 自 然 発 話 を 分 析 す る 際 は 常 に こ れ ら に 注 意 を 払 わ な け れ ば な ら な い 。 本論 文 では DM 仮 説を 援用 し、 日本 語にお け る親密度 が高い 複合語と親 密度が 低い 複 合 語 の 獲 得 過 程 が 異 な る こ と を 論 じ た が 、 上 述 の 通 り 、 大 人 の 英 語 話 者 を被 験 者 と し て 複 合 語 の 意 味 理 解 に 関 す る 心 理 実 験 を 行 っ た 場 合 、 親 密 度 が 高 い複 合 語 ほ ど 意 味 解 釈 が 容 易 で あ り 、 反 応 時 間 が 短 く て 済 む こ と が 明 ら か に な って
い る (Wisniewski and Murphy 2005)。 従って 、 子供を 被験者とし て同様 の実験を
行 う こ と は 難 し い に し て も 、 大 人 の 日 本 語 話 者 を 被 験 者 と し て 今 回 の 刺 激 を使 用 し て 意 味 理 解 に 至 る ま で の 反 応 時 間 を 測 定 し 、 親 密 度 に 基 づ い て 有 意 差 が観 察 され れ ば、本論 文 の主張 の 妥当性 を 一層高 め ること ができる。
ま た 、 本 論 文 で 得 ら れ た 帰 結 は モ ノ リ ン ガ ル だ け で な く バ イ リ ン ガ ル の 言語 獲 得 過 程 の 解 明 に も 寄 与 す る 。 本 論 文 の 結 果 は 、 複 合 語 の パ ラ メ ー タ 値 が 異な る 言 語 で 構 成 さ れ る バ イ リ ン ガ ル 環 境 が 形 態 レ ベ ル の 言 語 間 転 移 を 引 き 起 こす こ と を 示 し て い る 。 筆 者 が 知 る 限 り 、 日 本 語 と 英 語 の よ う に 複 合 語 の パ ラ メー タ 値 が 同 じ 言 語 を 学 習 し て い る バ イ リ ン ガ ル を 被 験 者 と し た 先 行 研 究 は 皆 無で あ る が 、 例 え ば 日 本 語 と ス ペ イ ン 語 の よ う に 、 パ ラ メ ー タ 値 が 異 な る 他 の 言語

の 組 み 合 わ せ に お い て も 形 態 レ ベ ル の 言 語 間 転 移 が 相 当 程 度 に 観 察 さ れ る なら ば 、 従 来 は 主 に 句 レ ベ ル の 現 象 を 対 象 に 考 察 さ れ て き た 言 語 間 転 移 が 語 レ ベル の 現 象 に お い て も 生 じ る こ と の 裏 づ け と な り 、 こ れ に よ っ て バ イ リ ガ ル の 言語 獲 得 の 過 程 で は 二 つ の 言 語 間 の 構 造 に 相 互 作 用 が あ る と い う 仮 説 の 妥 当 性 を大 き く高 め ることが で きる (イマージョン・プログラムで英語を学習している日本 語 を 母 語 と す る 子 供 を 対 象 に し た 言 語 間 転 移 の 考 察 に つ い て は 、 江 村 他 2009 を 参照 さ れたい)。
ま た 、 本 論 文 の 結 果 は 複 合 語 の 獲 得 ・ 処 理 に 留 ま ら ず 、 パ ラ メ ー タ の 研 究に も光を当てる。Snyder (1995; 2002) は、英語を母語とする子供の自然発話を分析 す ると 2 歳前後のほぼ同時期に生産的な複合語 (e.g. worm can) と 結果構 文 (e.g.
John painted the house red) が産出されることなどから、二つの現象を一つのパラ
メ ータ (複 合形 成パ ラメ ータ) に 還 元する 主 張を行 っている。この主張 に従 え ば、
パ ラメ ー タ値が [+ TCP] に設定 さ れ れば日 本 語のよ うに生産的 な語形 成及び結 果 構文 が 利用可能 に なり、[- TCP] に 設定さ れ ればフ ランス語の ように 生産的な 語 形 成 及 び 結 果 構 文 が 利 用 不 可 能 に な る 。 し か し 、 彼 自 身 も 認 め る 通 り 、 結果 構 文 の 自 然 発 話 に お け る 頻 度 は 極 め て 低 く 、 観 察 さ れ た 数 回 の 産 出 が 当 該 の知 識 が 安 定 状 態 に 達 し て い る こ と を 反 映 し て い る と は 言 い 難 い 。 ま た 、 本 論 文の 結 果 が 示 す よ う に 、 複 合 語 の 獲 得 は 一 度 の パ ラ メ ー タ 値 の 設 定 に よ っ て 完 了す る、というような一筋縄で済むものではない。従って、本論文の被験者と同じ (ま た は年 上 の) 月 齢の 子供 を対 象に 日 本 語の結 果構文 (e.g. 「ジョンが 家を赤 く塗 っ た」) の意味理解に関する心理実験を実施し、今回の結果と比較・検討するこ と で 、 二 つ の 現 象 が 一 つ の パ ラ メ ー タ に 帰 せ ら れ る の か 、 そ し て こ の 主 張 が正 し いな ら ばこの月 齢 の子供 が パラメ ー タ値を [+ TCP] に 設定した後 、当該 の知 識 が安 定 状態に向 か ってい る のかな ど を検証 す ること ができる。
こ の よ う に 、 本 論 文 の 成 果 は 特 に 言 語 獲 得 研 究 と 形 態 論 研 究 に お い て 貢 献 す る 可 能 性 を 秘 め て お り 、 こ こ で 得 ら れ た 成 果 を 踏 ま え て 研 究 を 推 し 進 め て いく こ とは 、 言語獲得 や 言語の 産 出・処 理 のメカ ニ ズ ムの解明に 寄与す る。
