In Japan, compulsory education consists of six years of elementary school education (6 years of age to 12 years of age) and three years of junior high school education (12 years of age to 15 years of age), for a total of nine years.
Foreign residents are not obliged to enroll their children in a Japanese school, however, if they would like, they can enroll their child in a municipal school. If you would like to enroll your child in a municipal school, please contact the School Affairs Division.

●Educational Expenses
The entrance fee and tuition for municipal elemen-tary and junior high schools are free. The textbooks are free of charge as well. However, the expenses for teaching materials other than textbooks, the child’s school supplies, school lunch, field trips and excur-sions, etc., must be borne by the parent.
●Enrollment in a Municipal Kindergarten Kindergartens are educational facilities for pre-school children. There are seven municipal kindergar-tens in Sumida City. If you want to enroll your child in one, please contact the kindergarten you would like to enroll your child in, or the Admission Section of the Children’s Facilities Division.

●After-School Clubs
These clubs take care of children in the lower grades of elementary school who are without adult supervision after school because their parents work or for some other reason. These clubs are operated in various locations in the city, such as children’s cen-ters, elementary schools, and community centers. The hours are from after school to 6:00 p.m. on school days, and from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on school holidays. Except for some after-school clubs, there are programs for extended early morning (from 8:00 a.m.), late evening (until 7:00 p.m.), and Saturday childcare.
●Children’s Centers
These are facilities where children can play and have friendly exchanges. Equipped with gymnasiums and libraries, they conduct many fun events as well.
There are 12 Children’s Centers in Sumida City, in-cluding Higashi Mukojima Children’s Center Annex.

●墨田国际学习中心
对刚到日本的学生集中进行日语指 导，并帮助他们适应学校的生活。除此 以外，还通过课程辅导等进行学习指导。

●学童俱乐部
培养因监护人工作等原因，下课后 不能得到培养的小学低年级的儿童的制 度，在儿童馆和小学、交流会馆等设施 运营。时间为放学时间〜下午 6 点，学 校停课日为上午 8 点 30 分〜下午 6 点。
除部分学童俱乐部外，还设有早晨延长
（上午 8 点开始）、夜间延长（到晚上 7 点为止）以及星期六培养活动等内容。
●儿童馆
供孩子们玩耍和交流的设施，有体 育室和图书室等，同时还举办很多有趣 的活动。区内有 12 所儿童馆（含东向岛 儿童分馆）。
●학동클럽
보호자의 근로 등으로 방과 후에 가정에서 적절 한 보호를 받을 수 없는 초등학교 저학년 아동을 육성하는 제도로 , 아동관이나 초등학교 , 커뮤니티 회관 등에서 운영하고 있습니다 . 육성시간은 하교 시 ~ 오후 6 시 , 학교 휴업일은 오전 8 시 30 분 ~ 오후 6 시입니다 . 또한 일부를 제외한 학동클럽에 서는 조조 연장 ( 오전 8 시부터 ), 야간 연장 ( 오후 7 시까지 ) 및 토요일 육성을 실시하고 있습니다 .

어린이들의 놀이와 교류를 위한 시설로 , 체육실 과 도서실 등이 있으며 즐거운 행사도 다양하게 개 최하고 있습니다 . 구내에는 12 개의 아동관 ( 히가 시 무코지마 아동관 분관 포함 ) 이 있습니다 .
