Please come and celebrate Bon Festival at the Lakeside
Shopping Center on August 18, Sunday, 2pm to 3 pm. Our tentative schedule is that the event will start off by the dramatic Japanese taiko drum performance by SGI drum group. Then our dancers will perform Japanese traditional folk dances such as Tokyo Ondo, Kawachi Otoko Bushi, Kagoshima Ohara Bushi, Tanko Bushi, etc. and the Japanese children group will have a special dance performance.
The Japan Club of New Orleans thanks everybody who contributes for this event.

News from the Last New Orleans Consul General Mr. and Mrs. Masaru Sakato
Every summer a jazz band, "Dixie Saints” led by Mr. and Mrs. Yoshio Toyama has visited New Orleans. This year from the end of July to the beginning of August a youth jazz band "Swing
Dolphins" who had suffered by the tsunami in Kesennuma, Japan will visit New Orleans accompanied by the jazz band, “Dixie Saints.” I'll reprint some of the information from Mr. and Mrs. Yoshio
Toyama below.
News from the Wonderful World Jazz Foundation
On March 11th, 2011 all the instruments belong to the Kesennuma Junior jazz orchestra, "Swing Dolphins", had been washed away by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. But immediately the media reported that all the musical instruments were replaced from the birth place of jazz New Orleans. I want to thank everyone involved again here. These children will be visiting New Orleans, perform cute swing and thank people in New Orleans!

This event became a reality because of the people's spirit to give back. Since 1994 the
Wonderful World Jazz Foundation led by Mr. Yoshio Toyama and Mrs. Keiko Toyama has donated 800 instruments to New Orleans children whose lives are surrounded by guns and drugs. In 2005 the
Foundation also donated over 10 million yens worth instruments and cash to the local musicians in New Orleans.

This activity of musical instrument gifts by the Wonderful World Jazz Foundation has established to show the appreciation for the great gift of jazz that America gave to the world.
Since its inception, the Foundation is carrying a slogan "Horns For Guns!" The grassroots movement through jazz to connect children in Japan and the United States has greatly expanded. This is
introduced as the bond between New Orleans and Japan by "Japanese Satchmo" on the latest issue of Web Magazine, "American View," by the United States Embassy.

This summer "Swing Dolphins" will arrive at Narita on July 31, head to the United States of the America, and come back at Narita on August 9.
The event was supported by the U.S. Embassy “TOMODACHI INITIATIVE,” the Wonderful World Jazz Foundation, the Tipitina's Foundation in New Orleans, and the Japan Foundation.
In New Orleans, the “Swing Dolphins” are scheduled for school visits, performances with local junior bands, TV appearances, performance at the magnificent jazz festival "Satchmo Summer
Festival" which is honoring Louis Armstrong who was called Satchmo, "King of Jazz" (local time = August 3).
There are the 19 "Swing Dolphins" members and the Chairman/teacher Mr. Jouichi Sutou on the way to the US.

True Boyd Style
Danny Waite, Security Officer Department recently presented Mr. Boyd with a portrait he had recently drawn and also completed. The portrait is of Mr. Boyd smoking his classic cigars against a blue backdrop. When asked about the drawing and why he chose to draw his particular picture, Danny said that he wanted to express his appreciation to
Mr. Boyd.
Danny just completed his tenth year of service with Boyd Gaming. Danny enjoys drawing with charcoal and color pencils as a hobby and is very good at it. He has even used his skills to draw illustrations for safety suggestions which he
submitted to the Safety Manager five times and three of those were adapted for changes.
Great job Danny. Keep drawing and living Boyd Style.
