Program Priorities
The Global Business program put a strong emphasis on the fundamental theories of
economics. After studying market mechanism, students will analyze failures of markets, governments and the role of civic society. Students will also explore new life-styles, business models, global environmental issues, and issues in development and trade, to gain abilities to come up with new solutions for the international, political and economic society. By studying the international economy, industrial organizations and business organizations, students will become creative members of the workforce for the future economic world. We recommend the GB students to take the courses of GS program also to broaden their knowledge.
In this Seminar, students are assigned to write a paper as a group. Though such group research activities and interactions with professors, the seminar facilitates development of students caracters which liberal arts education aims for, and offers opportunities for students to grow as future global leaders obtaining the three C s described above.
Career Opportunities
Adam Smith, the father of modern economics, stated that the free market mechanism would lead to the optimal resource allocation of the economy, and achieve the efficient economic society as if it were lead by a so called "invisible hand." At the same time, Smith put strong emphasis on virtues and ethics of business people. The Global Business program offers opportunities to become competitive business persons in the global business arena, but also aims to nurture internationally respected, dignified persons who have strong commitments.
Thus the education offered through the Global Business program will be useful for students who wish to become strong international business persons and for students who wish to work for international organizations or to play active roles in the global society. By studying with international exchange students from all over the world, students will develop humanistic perspectives which can be shared and understood regardless of differences in senses of value.
●Global Studies Program
Globalization has today become a common term referring to globally ongoing economic and political integration, economic interdependence, and intercultural communication. Since the 1990s, along with the demise of the Cold War framework and changes in international politics, the innovation and dissemination of science and technology, including internet, has promoted globalization. As a result, today we are able to receive and transmit a large quantity of and a variety of information instantaneously, deepening mutual interaction beyond races, ethnicities, religions, nationalities, and so on. On the other hand, we are confronted with various problems due to historical, cultural, political and social differences and economic disparities. The Global Studies (GS) Program aims at equipping students to be successful in the globalized world and contributing not only to their own countries but also to the whole human society.
Program Priorities
The GS Program puts educational emphasis on helping students to develop logical and creative thinking skills. Accordingly, students are required to take a variety of courses in a particular country's/region's history, culture, society, politics, economy, multinational/multiregional relations, the functions and roles of international organizations and institutions, and global scale phenomena and problems. Students can also take the courses of the Global Business (GB) Course as necessary. Furthermore, students are required to major in East Asian Studies, North American Studies, or Transnational Studies and belong to a seminar to write a seminar paper on a topic which they chose as a capstone project by graduation. Through regular and seminar courses and a one-year study abroad program, students are expected to endeavor to gain and deepen knowledge and cultivate thinking faculty to investigate and understand the things of all ages and design a better future for mankind.
The GS Program simultaneously encourages students to enhance communication skills.
Language is essential to effective communication in the globalized society. Especially, competence in English, which plays a role as a global language today, is of vital importance.
Students have to strive to develop speaking, listening, reading, and writings skills in English through daily academic activities. Students have opportunities to learn foreign languages other than English as necessary.
課程の重点
グローバル・ビジネス課程は経済学の原理を重視します。市場経済の基本的メカニズムを十分に理 解したうえで、市場の失敗や、政府の失敗、市民社会の役割などを分析します。また、国際的な政 治・経済社会において新しい解決策を見いだせるよう、新しいライフスタイルやビジネス・モデル、
地球環境問題、開発と貿易、日本経済の課題などに取り組みます。これらの現実の国際経済、産業組 織、ビジネス組織を研究することにより、将来の経済社会を構築するための創造力を発揮できる人材 となっていきます。幅広い教養を身につけるためにも、グローバル・スタディズ課程の科目も同時に 履修することを勧めます。
留学後に必修科目として履修する「総合セミナー」では、少人数のグループごとに論文作成の課題 が課されます。このセミナーでは、共同の研究作業や教員との相互作用を通じて、教養教育が目指す 人格の育成を促し、学生が上記の「３つのＣ」を備えた将来のグローバル・リーダーとなるべく、学 習の場を与えています。
卒業後の進路
経済学の祖アダム・スミスは、市場のメカニズムがあたかも「見えざる手」のように資源の最適配 分に導き、効率的な経済社会を達成することを説きました。しかしより重要なことは、企業人の道徳、
倫理も重要視したことです。グローバル・ビジネス課程は、世界を舞台にした厳しい競争の場におい て、世界各国の企業人と競うための能力を磨く機会を学生に与えますが、同時に国際社会で尊敬を得 られる、品格と志を備えた人間を養成します。経済学を支える哲学的思考が卒業後に役立つからです。
ビジネス界だけではなく、国際機関、あるいは国際的な市民社会で活躍するうえでも、グローバ ル・ビジネス課程は役に立つはずです。世界中から集まってくる留学生の多くがAIUのGB科目を履修 しています。世界の学生と一緒に授業を受講することにより、異なった価値観を超えて共有できる人 間的な視点を養うことができます。
●グローバル・スタディズ課程
「グローバリゼーション(地球規模化)」は、今日、地球規模での経済的及び政治的統合の動きや経済 的相互依存、異文化間交流が進む現象を指す一般的な用語となっています。1990年代以降、冷戦構造 の消滅による国際政治上の変動とともに、インターネットをはじめとする科学技術の革新と普及が、
グローバリゼーションを促してきました。その結果、今日我々は大量かつ多様な情報を瞬時に受発信 することが可能となり、人種や民族、宗教、国籍などを超えた相互交流を広範化かつ深化させつつあ ります。しかしその一方で、我々は歴史や、文化、政治・社会制度上の相違や経済状況の差異などに 起因するさまざまな問題にも直面しています。グローバル・スタディズ課程は、グローバル化の進展 する世界において、あらゆる分野で活躍できる人材、自国だけではなく広く人類社会に貢献できる人 材の育成を目指します。
課程の重点
グローバル・スタディズ課程では、学生がグローバル社会を生き抜くために求められる論理的かつ 創造的思考力を育むことに重点を置いています。そこで、学生は各国や各地域の歴史、文化、社会、
政治、経済をはじめ、多国家間・地域間の関係、国際機関・国際組織の機能と役割、地球規模のさま ざまな現象や問題などに関するさまざまな科目を履修することが求められます。必要に応じて、グロ ーバルビジネスの科目を履修することも可能です。さらに学生は、東アジア研究、北米研究、トラン スナショナル研究のうち一つを専攻分野として選択するとともに専攻ごとに開講されるセミナーに所 属し、卒業までの学習の総仕上げとして、自ら選択した研究テーマについて論文作成に取り組みます。
学生は、通常の授業やセミナー、一年間の留学を通して、知識の蓄積に勤めるとともに、古今の事象 を究明し人類にとってより良い未来を構想するに足る思考力を養うことが期待されます。
同時に、グローバル・スタディズ課程は、学生のコミュニケーション能力（意思疎通能力・発信力）
の向上にも力を入れています。グローバル化社会におけるコミュニケーションでは、外国語能力が重
Career Opportunities
GS graduates have found jobs in global and local enterprises, central and local governments, government agencies, mass media and entered advanced educational and research institutions such as graduate schools in Japan and abroad.
●Project Based Learning What is PBL?
AIU has offered Project Based Learning (PBL) courses since 2012. In a PBL course, students from AIU and universities overseas form a project team to examine a specific problem a region faces.
First, students study the background of the problem and theories/concepts which are necessary to understand the problem. Then, students go to the region to conduct research and collect data. Students are then expected to complete in-depth analysis and discuss the findings to compile a report for the community with suggested solutions. These processes are designed to enable students to strengthen their communication, cooperative skills, and analytical skills. They will also provide the students with enhanced leadership and problem-solving skills, which are imperative elements for becoming a leader in an increasingly globalized world.
There are two types of PBL.
a. Stand-alone PBL: It targets students who have completed either 1 or 2 semesters study abroad at any AIU partner institution. The PBL is carried out for 3 weeks in the vicinity of the partner institution and then 3 weeks in Akita in summer. At the end of PBL, students who have already completed their study abroad before participating in PBL will return to AIU; those who have only completed one semester study abroad will return to their host institutions to complete their study abroad. There are also PBL programs which begin and concluded overseas.
b. AIU PBL: It targets all students regardless of their study abroad status. This target is carried out mainly in Akita.
AIU encourages students who wish to enhance learning skills acquired through the existing curriculum and to work on actual community problems. We recommend AIU students to consider participating in this challenging initiative.
●Long-term Internship
In order to allow undergraduate degree-seeking students to have more connection with the real society and more experiences to work longer, AIU has established three new courses below from academic year 2016 in addition to the current course, CCS200: Internship (3 credits).
CCS205:Long-term Internship I (6 credits) CCS210:Long-term Internship II (9 credits) CCS215:Long-term Internship III (12 credits)
※CCS215:Long-term Internship III (12 credits) only applies to special programs that AIU offers.
The Long-term Internship courses will have meaningful influence on your future study and career planning. However, it should never affect attending other academic courses and it must not be a means to escape from studying. Therefore, except for the Long-term Internship III (12 credits), Long-term Internship activities should be undertaken during the summer or winter break, and a certain level of academic achievement is required as a condition. Please also note that you can take only one course from among CCS205, CCS210 or CCS215 during your time at AIU.
要な意味を持ちますが、特に今日事実上の世界言語というべき英語については、十分な能力を身につ けることが不可欠となっています。そこで、学生は日頃の学習活動を通して話す、聞く、読む、書く といった英語能力を磨くべく研鑽を重ねることが求められます。学生は、必要に応じて英語以外の外 国語を修得する機会も与えられています。
卒業後の進路
グローバル・スタディズ課程の卒業生たちは、これまでに企業のみならず、政府及び地方自治体、
政府関連機関、マスメディア、シンクタンクや大学院等の国内外の高等教育・研究機関に進んでいま す。
●課題解決型プロジェクト科目
平成24年度より本学カリキュラムにProject Based Learning （PBL）を導入しています。PBLで は学生と教員でプロジェクトチームを結成し、地域が実際に直面している課題を設定した上で、その 課題解決にチームとして取り組みます。PBLでは課題に関する背景、課題解決に資する理論／概念等 を学習した後、実際に地域に赴き、データ収集を行います。その後、データの整理／分析、グループ 内での議論を経て、その課題解決に向けた提案を当該地域に向けて発表します。学生はこの一連の作 業を通してコミュニケーション力、調整力、複眼的分析力、協調性、リーダーシップ、問題発見能力、
課題解決力など、グローバル社会で活躍するための能力を身につける事ができます。PBLには２つの 類型があります。
a.Stand-alone PBL：留学を修了した学生または１学期間留学を終えた学生が対象です。夏休みに海 外の提携校の近郊地域で３週間、その後、秋田県内で３週間PBLを行います。既に２学期終了した 上でPBLに参加した学生はそのまま本学で通常の履修を行い、１学期履修した上で参加した学生は 留学先に戻り残りの履修を行います。他にも海外のみで完結するプログラムもあります。
b.AIU単独PBL：留学に関係なく誰でも履修できるPBLです。主に秋田県内で行われます。
本学のカリキュラムによって養われる学修スキルをさらに強化したい学生、留学生との協働作業を 通して実際に地域の課題に取り組みたい学生は、この実践的かつ挑戦的なPBLに是非参加してみてく ださい。
●長期インターンシップ
学生が社会との接点をより多く持つことができるよう、本学では平成28年度より正規学部学生を対 象に、従来の3単位のCCS200：インターンシップに加え、以下の科目を設定し、様々な長期の就業体 験に対し、単位を付与しています。
・CCS205：長期インターンシップ I（6単位）
・CCS210：長期インターンシップ II（9単位）
・CCS215：長期インターンシップ III（12単位）
（CCS215：長期インターンシップ IIIは大学指定の特定のプログラムのみが対象）
長期インターンシップは将来の学修計画やキャリア設計上、重要な意味を持つと考えられますが、
他の授業履修に影響を与えることや、勉学からの逃避手段とすることは避けなくてはなりません。し たがって、長期インターンシップは「長期インターンシップ III (12単位)」を除いて、夏休みまたは冬 休みの期間に行うこと、また一定の成績を修めていることが実施の条件となります。また、CCS205、
CCS210、CCS215は、卒業までにどれか一科目しか履修できません。
