4-11. Policy on Harassment
AIU provides an international environment, in which nearly half of the faculty are foreign nationals.
International students from various countries live and study on campus, and students should be considerate of cultural and religious differences and should not offend others.
Prejudicial language or other such discriminatory behavior which repels or discomforts others is known as "harassment." Verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, in which the recipient of the conduct is made to feel uncomfortable or frightened, is considered "sexual harassment." Anyone who witnesses such a conduct should make an attempt to help the victim by intervening or calling others for help. When an individual feels harassed, it is important for him/her to express in a resolute manner that such behavior is unwanted and must be stopped immediately. Harassment problems may only worsen if handled in a vague and irresolute manner.
A student who believes that he or she has been harassed is encouraged to consult with the university counselor and/or the harassment advisor(s). The counselor and the advisor(s) will make sure that the student's privacy be respected, and work to protect the student from any drawbacks including revenge by the accused. AIU is committed to preventing harassment on campus and continues to address the issue by establishing regulations and guidelines on harassment (Please refer to "Guideline for Harassment Prevention").
4-12. Alcohol and Smoking Policies
Japanese law bans people under the age of 20 from drinking and smoking. All AIU students are expected to adhere to these regulations. Additionally, those who drink alcohol should avoid drinking excessively, because alcohol is harmful to one's health and has the potential to cause death.
