other countries, I noticed that something was lacking in my history classes.
Please recall your history class. I am sure most of you, including me, recalled how stressful it was to “memorize” the textbook before the exam in order to write down the “correct answers.” Since my experience of a hundred cranes, my view has changed. Now I believe that history is not just the past, but the future which has possibilities to broaden our views.
Let me suggest today that we should deepen our knowledge of history.
This does not mean memorizing the names and the dates of historical events, but establishing multi-angle opinions toward historical events. In order to broaden our understanding, as it goes with the famous proverb, “seeing is believing,” doing fieldwork to see historical buildings, listening to narratives, and trying to think how to hand down what we have studied and felt to others should be meaningful. Students should not be evaluated only by what they know but also by what they think by studying it.
Moreover, looking at Japanese history from a non-Japanese view point is also a wonderful opportunity to find new information. There are a number of sister cities which have established partnerships with prefectures and cities in Japan. And I believe there should be more opportunities to meet each other.
Going to one of the sister cities to visit a school on a school trip or welcoming exchange students to have opportunities to exchange not only cultures but ideas with others who have different historical backgrounds are more valuable than studying textbooks. If meeting face to face is difficult, we have the luxury of utilizing the latest technologies such as Facebook and Skype. Through such exchanges, we can learn how to express ideas and accept what other students believe. Knowing each other must be a chance to see other aspects of history, of life, and of values. This is what I felt lacking in my history classes.
The other day, I received a letter from the teacher who I gave the cranes. She said that she still has a hundred folded paper cranes in her class and discusses the story of the cranes. What I left was a small thing but I cannot help hoping that those colorful hundred cranes let her students see the other side of the atomic bombs and made them more curious about the issue there. I believe developing our consciousness, abilities to express ideas and accept
other points of view will teach us that history is not just the past but it is the future. It has the possibility to unite people all over the world. （817words）

まず…個人的にバリュー大好き人間で、このスピーチはわりとソーシャルにしたつもり です！受け止め方は個々あると思いますが（笑）芽が出るまでに半年以上かかったスピー チなのですごく思い出があります。またこのスピーチを発表できたからこそ、最後のスピー チに手をつけることができたので良い機会を作ってくれた作品になりました。

≪経緯≫
このスピーチは「歴史をどう知り、どう伝えるか」という授業での質問が原点です。９．１ １以降、戦争や平和について考えたり、アメリカでの生活を通して「過去」の受け止め方が難 しいことを実感していた矢先のことでした。１００羽鶴をあげた懐かしい知人が手紙を書 いてきてくれたことで何年も前の出来事ですが、「これを元にスピーチにしよう」という考 えに至りました。最初と最後に繋がりをつけたのもこのためです。聴いてくれた人が自分と 世界が繋がる接点（テレビや留学、海外旅行など）において思い出してもらえるようなス ピーチにしたいと思いました。
≪過程・工夫した点≫
友だちとのブレインストーミングを経て形にはなったものの、応募した前期のオープン には何一つ通過していません。トピックに関してはほとんどのジャッジから「良い」と褒め られていましたが、「聴衆に何を言いたい（何をしてほしい）かわからない」「実行性・
実効性がわからない」等というジャッジングシートを元に更に書き変えていく日々でした。
そこで「なぜこのスピーチをするか」の意義を明らかにすることと、「どんなアプローチ の方法があるのか」を優先的に考えました。個人的にバリュー好きで、ついついバリューっ ぽくなってしまうのですが、トピック自体はソーシャル的で、なおかつ万人受けするもので はないことは確かだったのでtoo personalにならないことにだけ常に気をつけ、他大の 人や社会人の方にも読んでいただきました。
また戦争や歴史などを扱う場合、「愛国心」や「正義」、「賛否」というようなことも語れそ うですが、「広島・長崎」と「パールハーバー」はわかりやすくするための例であるため、
（本当はもう少しパールハーバーの方を膨らませるつもりでしたが文字数の関係で割愛）
できるだけ中立に書いたつもりです。
後期はこのスピーチで３大会の予選を通過することができました♪協力してくださった 皆さまに感謝感激です（^０^）☆
≪反省≫
オープンで入賞することができましたが、やはり「実行性・実効性」は弱いと言われまし た。ソリューションが曖昧な形式になってしまったので、もっと的を明確にする（例えば、
学校なら「学校の取り組みとして」、国なら「国の取り組みとして」、個人なら「個人の取り組 みとして」と明記する）必要があるかと思います。既に行われている成功例などを提示する と説得力が増したりしますよね。
また、ＳＮＳなど個人の身の回り（草の根レベル）でできる提案ができたらよかったな とも思っています。本当は「ＳＮＳやネット、海外旅行が主流となり海外の人と交流する機 会が増えている今だからこそ考えてほしい」という理由を入れるはずでしたが文字数の関 係で削除…
先ほどから「文字数の関係で」ということを何回か書いていますが、各パラのバランスを 考えつつ、「書かなければいけないころ・省けること」を常に意識することが重要ですネ。
そういったことで言えば、文字数が多いパラと少ないパラが目立つので、もう少しバランス を工夫できたらよかったかな～と思います。
