Jessica Dunton SeDoMoCha Elementary School 笠井千勢 岐阜大学 Hasebe et al. (2010) created a junior high school version of the Minimal English Test MET (jMET) for 9th graders based on New Horizon English Course 3 widely used in Japan. The jMET is a simple test which requires the test taker to write a correct English word into each of the 65 blank spaces of the given sentences, while listening to the CD. It takes about 5 minutes to complete it.

Grammar is language knowledge, which is dynamic. It includes different sizes and different schematic levels of expressions, some of which are units and others are schemas. There are many pieces of expressions in your brain, and what you do when you produce a sentence is ‘cut and paste’ the pieces of expressions you need to convey your meaning. (cf. Langacker: 2002: 264 2 , Tomasello: 2002: 10) 3

3. All schools will compete in the preliminary round, after which the top four schools will advance to the final tournament. The remaining four teams will compete against one another for first, second, third, and fourth place, respectively.
