お う か え いみなさん こんにちは！ 私 わたし は岩槻高等学校１年生 ねんせい の王佳睿といいます。 私は２０１４年 ねん ３月 がつ に日本 に ほ ん へ来 き て、５月に 中 学 ちゅうがく １年生に入 はい りました。 その時 とき は日本語が 全 まった く話 はな せなかったのですが、一 生 懸 命 いっしょうけんめい に頑張 が ん ば って話せるよう になりました。日本語 教 室 きょうしつ に行 い ってボランティアの先生 せんせい にも教 おし えてもらいまし た。 最初 さいしょ は一般 いっぱん 入試 にゅうし のことしか知 し りませんでしたが、中学３年生の９月に「外国人 がいこくじん 特別 とくべつ 選抜 せんばつ 」(*１)のことを知り、それで、「外国人特別選抜」で受験 じゅけん することにしました。 外国人特別選抜は、数学 すうがく と英語 え い ご と面接 めんせつ の試験 し け ん で合否 ご う ひ が決 き まります。それで、私は数学と英語を 重 点 的 じゅうてんてき に 勉 強 べんきょう しました。私の勉強方法 ほうほう は、まず教科書 きょうかしょ の問題 もんだい とワークブックの内容 ないよう をやって、間違 ま ち が ったところを何回 なんかい も繰 く り返 かえ し てやりました。冬休 ふゆやす みからは 塾 じゅく へも通 かよ い、ほぼ毎日 まいにち 、塾の自習室 じしゅうしつ で勉強しました。苦手 に が て な数学だけ、塾の 授 業 じゅぎょう を 受 う けました。過去 か こ 問 もん をしっかりやることと日本語の 力 ちから が必要 ひつよう です。私は日本語 能 力 のうりょく 試験 し け ん ２ 級 きゅう を受 う けるために一 生懸命勉強し、そして合格 ごうかく しました。 岩槻高校を選 えら んだのは、知 し り合 あ いの先輩 せんぱい に勧 すす められたからです。皆 みな さんも知り合いや学校の先生とよく相談 そうだん して 話 はなし を聞 き いて決 き められたら良 よ いと思います。色々 いろいろ な学校の説明会 せつめいかい や文化 ぶ ん か 祭 さい にも行って、自分 じ ぶ ん に合 あ う学校を選 えら んでく ださい。受験が近 ちか づいてきたら、面接の 練 習 れんしゅう もした方が良いと思います。 岩槻高校では放課後 ほ う か ご 「日本語教室」があります。私が入っている「国際 こくさい 交流部 こうりゅうぶ 」には外 がい 国籍 こくせき の生徒 せ い と も大勢 おおぜい いま す。学校の勉強と行事 ぎょうじ を 両 立 りょうりつ させて、楽 たの しい学校生活 せいかつ を送 おく っています。 これからの受験勉強は大変 たいへん だと思いますが、ぜひ高 たか い壁 かべ を乗 の り越 こ えて頑張ってください‼ *１ 外国人特別選抜には 出 願 しゅつがん 条 件 じょうけん があります。

Hello everyone!
My name is Jia Rui Wang, and I'm a freshman at Iwatsuki Prefectural High School.
I came to Japan in March of 2014, and started my first year of middle school that May. At the time, I couldn't speak Japanese at all, but I worked as hard as I could, and now I can finally speak Japanese. I went to a local Japanese class, and even had some of the volunteer Japanese teachers there help teach me the language.
At first, I only knew about the general high school entrance exams in Japan, but last September, I found out about the "Special Selection for Foreigners" system (1), and decided to apply for high school that way. The system determines your eligibility based on an interview and a special test containing only the English and math sections of the high school entrance exam. With that in mind, I made sure to focus on English and math in my studies. To study, I'd work my way through the problems in my textbooks and workbooks, and go over the prob-lems I got wrong over and over again. I started going to cram school over winter break, and studied almost every day in the school's self-study room. Math was my weak point, so that was the only class I took at my cram school. I had to make sure I could handle both past problems from the test and Japanese itself, so I studied as hard as I could and passed the N2 level of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
I chose Iwatsuki High because an acquaintance of mine recommended it to me. It's a good idea to talk with your teachers and the people you know before choosing a school. Be sure to go to a lot of information meet-ings and cultural festivals at the schools you're looking at to find a school that fits what you're looking for. When it gets close to entrance exams, you should try to practice for the interviews, too.
There's an afterschool Japanese class at Iwatsuki High, and the "International Exchange Division" that I'm a part of also has several students of various nationalities. I've been able to balance my studies and all the school functions I'm a part of, and I'm having a great time along the way.
I'm sure you're all working hard to study for your entrance exams, but give it your best and climb over whatever walls stand in your way!

Hello everyone!
I'm Gisela Marien Sumihiro from Argentina in South America. I arrived here in Japan on July 30th Saitama Prefectural Office. Naturally, I'll also be helping with the Spanish edition of MoshiMoshi.
Argentina isn't very well known, but I'm sure you've at least heard of it. Argentina is famous for soccer, for example, and has a number of famous soccer players. Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona are both from Argentina. Soccer isn't all we have either; Argentina is also famous for its delicious beef.
I'm of Japanese descent, so I've been around the Japanese language and culture since I was a child, and my grandpa and grandma only spoke Japanese. There's a Japanese association in my area called the La Plata Japanese Association where all the Japanese and those of Japanese descent living in the area meet up for a variety of events. The association established its own Japanese language school, and I studied Japanese there from first grade until I was 15. Before coming to Japan, I worked at the school as a teacher's assistant for 8 years, and as an instructor for 1 year. Every year, the students' parents and guardians put on the "La Plata Obon Dance" on the school grounds, a notably popular event in Argentina with roughly 15,000 people in attendance every year.
I'm looking forward to meeting people from all over the world during my time here, and I hope to use this chance to improve my Japanese and experience Japanese culture in all its various forms. Moving forward, I hope to do all I can to help out as a CIR.

Hello everybody, my name's Chris Craigo, and I'm from the rural mountains of North Carolina. I'm going to be handling the English version of MoshiMoshi from here on out in Kelly's place. It's my first time working in Japan, so there's still a ton of stuff I'm trying to figure out, but I'm going to try my best to learn the ropes bit by bit.
Still, it's going to take a lot of getting used to. I was raised in a ridiculously small town called "Bakersville," and without a super market or a chain store in sight, it's pretty rural. This'll be my third time in Japan, but it's my first time living out in the big city here in Saitama, so I'm in a state of near-constant awe at how convenient everything is.
I've loved manga and Japanese games since I was a little kid, so when I made it to my sophomore year of high school, I finally decided to study the so-called "Impossible Language." After I started study-ing seven years ago, I gradually fell in love with the language, and now I'm about as big of a Japanese nerd as you'll find. I've still got a long way to go, but if I can, I'd love to work as a Japanese professor or a pro-fessional literary or game translator back in the States down the road.
In any case, I'll be doing all I can to make the English version of MoshiMoshi as awesome as I can, so here's hoping you'll keep on reading as always!

今回 こんかい も「日本語を母語としない子どもと保護者の高校進学ガイダンス２０１７」に、 児童 じ ど う ・生徒 せ い と ・保護者など１２６人の方々 かたがた が参加 さ ん か しました。 出 身 しゅっしん 国 こく も 中 国 ちゅうごく ・ペルー・ブラジル・ フィリピン・パキスタン・ネパール・タイ・インド・韓国 かんこく ・メキシコと様々 さまざま でした。 受験を控 ひか えた生徒たちはもちろんですが、小学校低学年 ていがくねん の保護者の方も、高校進学を見据 み す えて熱心 ねっしん に質問 しつもん をされ ていました。また、学校 がっこう 生活 せいかつ や進学 しんがく に関 かん して母国 ぼ こ く との違 ちが いに戸惑 と ま ど い、不安 ふ あ ん を抱 かか えている保護者の方も見受 み う けられま した。母語で相談 そうだん し、ガイダンスで多 おお くの 情 報 じょうほう を得 え て、少 すこ しでも疑問 ぎ も ん や不安が 解 消 かいしょう できれば良 よ いと思います。 子どもたち自身 じ し ん の 将 来 しょうらい の希望 き ぼ う （進学したい学校、就 つ きたい 職 業 しょくぎょう など）がはっきりしてくると、 学 習 がくしゅう に対 たい する 目的 もくてき 意識 い し き が高 たか くなり学習意欲 い よ く も増 ま す、そして 学 力 がくりょく が 向 上 こうじょう するという調査 ちょうさ 結果 け っ か もあります。 私が中学生の頃 ころ 、走 はし るのが速 はや く陸上部で頑張 が ん ば っていた同 級 生 どうきゅうせい がいました。速く走りたい、もっと速くなりたい… という気持ちから、スポーツや健康 けんこう 、筋肉 きんにく や骨格 こっかく に興味 きょうみ が広 ひろ がっていき、今は大学 だいがく の先生になりました。何が、将 来につながるか分 わ からないものですね。 ニュースレターMoshiMoshiは、これからも皆さんを応援 おうえん していきます。 アドバイザー 北村This year, we had 126 participants from Peru, Brazil, the Phillipines, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Korea and Mexico join us for the “2017 High School Entrance for Non-Native Students & Guardians” conference.
At the conference, we had questions from students preparing for their entrance exams as well as from the parents and guardians of elementary students looking ahead to prepare for the high school entrance pro-cess. We also heard from parents and guardians concerned about the differences in school life and high school entrance processes in their home countries and Japan. We hope that the conference was able to help alleviate some of these doubts and uncertainties. Research has proven that when children have a clear idea of their fu-ture goals (the school they want to go to, what they want to be when they grow up, etc.), they become more goal-oriented, leading to an increase in both their appetite to learn and their grades in class.
One of my classmates in junior high school was a member of the school’s track club and good at running. His desire to go faster and faster spread out into an interest in sports and health, muscles and the human skeleton, and now he’s a college professor. You never know what might be go on to be a part of your future, after all !
