せ い ど ・・・・・・・・6 歳 12 歳 ・・・・・・・１５歳 日本に ほ んの教 育きょういくの仕組し くみです。日本に ほ んでは小 学 校しょうがっこう（６年間ねんかん）と 中ちゅう学がっ校こう（３ ねん年間かん）は義ぎ務むきょう教育いく（ 必かならず保ほ護ご 者 しゃ が子し女じょを行いかせなければならない学がっ校こう）です。その後ご、中 学 校ちゅうがっこうを卒 業そつぎょうした１００人のうち約やく９８ 人が、高こう校こう（３～４年ねん間かん）に行きます。 さらに、高こう校こうを卒そつぎょう業した１００人にんのうち約やく７７人は、大だい学がく（４～６年ねん間かん）や、短たん期き大だい学がく（２年ねん間かん）、 または専せん門もん学がっ校こう（２～３年ねん間かん）に行いきます。

This is the Japanese Educational System. In Japan education is compulsory (parents must have their children go to school) from elementary school (6 years) to junior high school (3 years). 98% of junior high school graduates enter senior high schools ( 3 ～ 4 years).

About 77% of high school graduates go to some form of college or vocational school.

Going to high school opens up a much greater selection of possible occupations to choose from, as well as helping students “search their ability.”

学 習 がくしゅう スタイルによって 3種類しゅるいの課程か て いがあります。 全日制 ぜんにちせい の課程か て い 午前 ご ぜ ん 8 時 40分ぷん頃ごろから午後ご ご3 時 30分ぷん頃ごろまで毎日まいにちじゅぎょう授 業を受うける課か程ていです。 卒 業 そつぎょう まで 3年間ねんかんです。 定時制て い じ せ いの課程か て い 特 とく 定 てい の区く切られた時じ間かん帯たい（午前ご ぜ ん、午後ご ご、夜間や か ん）で授じゅぎょう業を受うける課か程ていで、多おおくの 学 がっ 校 こう は夜や間かんの時じ間かん帯たいです。 卒 業 そつぎょう までに 3年ねん以上いじょうかかります。 通信制 つうしんせい の課程か て い 教科書 きょうかしょ 、学 習 書がくしゅうしょをもとに、主おもに自宅じ た くで作成さくせいしたレポートを提 出ていしゅつし、試験し け んに合格ごうかく することで、単位た ん いを修 得しゅうとくする課程か て いです。 月 つき に 2～3回かい程度て い どは、登校とうこうして面接めんせつ指導し ど う（スクーリング）を受うける必ひつ要ようがありま す。卒そつぎょう業まで 3年ねん以いじょう上かかります。 通信制 つうしんせい は直 接ちょくせつじゅぎょう授 業を受うける時じ間かんは少すくないです。 日に本ほん語ごの 力ちからを伸のばすのは 難むずかしいです。

Types of High Schools

There are public (prefectural) and private high schools in Fukushima prefecture. And according to the difference of timetable, there are 3 types of curriculum.

（１）

Difference between Public and Private high schools

Public High Schools

Founded by the prefecture. In Fukushima there are 88 prefectural high schools and 5 branch schools. Those who live in Fukushima can apply. General courses are divided by school districts.

Private High Schools

Founded by privately owned educational foundations. Educational policy varies. Those who live outside of Fukushima can also apply. There are 19 private high schools in Fukushima. School fees tend to be more expensive than those of public schools.

＊ “Independent administrative agency National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College” is the only high school that doesn’t fit into these two categories. (It serves as kind of a combination high school and junior college, totaling 5 years.)

Difference between Full-time , Part-time, and Correspondence curriculum

Depending on the eligibility of the students, there are 3 choices of curriculum.

Full-time Curriculum

Students are in class every day from around 8:40 ～ 15:30. 3 years must be completed to graduate.

Part-time Curriculum

Students take classes only during a specific time of day (Morning/Afternoon/Evening) Many part-time Schools are for the evening. 3 years or more are needed to graduate.

Correspondence- Curriculum

Students study individually (using textbooks or other materials) and have their assignments checked by teachers. They must attend school several times a month to study and attend a class lecture.

3 years or more are needed to graduate.

Due to the nature of correspondence school, there are fewer face-to-face meetings, meaning that students will have fewer opportunities to improve their Japanese proficiency.

高校 こうこう は勉 強べんきょうの種類しゅるいによって、学科が っ かに分かれています。 福島県 ふくしまけん の公立こうりつ高校こうこうには次つぎの学科が っ かがあります。 普通科ふ つ う か 国語 こ く ご 、社会しゃかい、数学すうがく、理科り か、英語え い ごなどの共 通きょうつう教科きょうかを中 心ちゅうしんに勉 強べんきょうする、 最もっとも一いっ般ぱん 的 てき な学がっ科かです。 専門 せんもん 学科が っ か 農 業 のうぎょう 、工 業こうぎょう、商 業しょうぎょう、水産すいさん、家庭か て い、英語え い ご、数理す う り科学か が く、体育たいいく、文ぶん理科り か、環 境かんきょう緑地りょくち、 食 品 しょくひん 科学か が く、デザイン科学か が く、観光かんこうビジネス、国際こくさい科学か が くに関かんする学科が っ かがあり、専門的せんもんてき 知識ち し き、技術ぎじゅつの基本き ほ んを勉 強べんきょうします。 総合 そうごう 学科が っ か 普通科 ふ つ う か の科目か も くと専門せんもん学科が っ かの科目か も くを多様た よ うに選択せんたくして学べるま な べ る学科が っ かです。 （県内けんないどこからも受験じゅけんできます。）

3) Differences between Yearly advance and Credit-based

Yearly advance Students advance to a higher grade year by year, starting with 1st _{grade, then 2}nd _grade,

and then 3rd _grade.

Credit-based Students earn credits based on their learning hours in each subject, and advance based on the total number of credits earned.

(4)About General course，Specialized course, and Integrated course

High schools have several courses depending on the kinds of subjects. Below are the courses offered at public schools in Fukushima.

General course Students mainly learn general academic subjects (such as Japanese, social studies, math, science, and English).

Specialized course Aiming to become specialists in a specific academic area, students learn specialized knowledge and basic skills.

There are several departments such as Agriculture, Industry, Business, Fisheries, Home Economics, English, Mathematical Science, Physical Education, Literature and Science, Environmental Studies, Food Science, Design Science, Tourism Business, International Science.

Integrated Studies course

Students can choose from both General and Specialized courses according to their interests.

(１)Eligibility requirements for applying

Students must live in Fukushima prefecture with their guardians, be over 15 years old on

April 1

st

_{in the year of high school entrance, and meet either of the two conditions below:}

a. Those who have graduated from Japanese junior high schools, or will graduate in

March.

b. Those who have finished 9 years of school education abroad.

(２) Requirements for applying for the Special (limited) Selection for Foreign Students and

the like

① Foreign students

Students must be of foreign nationality, they must either currently live in Fukushima

prefecture with their guardians or be going to live there with them.

They must be within 3 years of arrival in Japan. Which means, in principal, on February 1

st

of the examination year, 3 years have not passed since they arrived in Japan

Returnee students

Students who have been living abroad for more than 1 year.

High School Tuition Support Fund

The High School Tuition Support Fund is a system provided by the government to

reduce the burden of household educational costs.

Conditions of Payment＞



Households where total amount of municipal income tax on income basis of the

guardians（persons with parental authority, if there are father and mother, total of

both）is less than ¥304,200 (it is approximately equivalent to an annual income of

¥9,100,000.)



Households receiving public assistance

<Application Documents>

Application form (distributed through the high school the student is enrolling in)

Local documentation (obtainable at your local municipal office) which verifies

guardians’ income (documentation showing municipal tax per income levy) as

required by Fukushima prefecture
