Nationwide diffusion of the “institutional environment
creation support program catering to elderly
people with dementia”

Abstract: The “institutional environment creation support program catering to elderly people
with dementia” aims first to change the physical environment of institutions, and from there cause
a ripple effect generating improvements in care and management environments, thereby aiming for
the betterment of the lives of elderly people with dementia. The aim of this study is to construct a
support structure in order to facilitate nationwide diffusion of the “institutional environment creation
support program catering to elderly people with dementia”. In this academic year, the institutional
environment creation manual was revised, a website featuring methods of institutional environment
creation and case studies was constructed, institutional environment creation training was developed
and practical research on institutional environment creation was conducted at several sites in Japan
and Taiwan. Through these activities, training and evaluation of the effectiveness of environment
creation related to the “institutional environment creation support program catering to elderly people
with dementia” were implemented.
