【Year 3】 今月の歌 Jack and Jill CD no. 5
１番を歌えた子は 2 番 3 番も挑戦できます。
3 年生は、自分が住んでいる場所を言う学習をしました。｢I live in～.｣という定型文の中に自分の情報を当てはめていきます。住 んでいる国、県、市、丁目など様々な言い方ができます。上手に言 えるようになった後、自分のプロフィールシートを作りました。自 分の名前、年、住んでいる所、好きな色や物をなどです。その後、
それをみんなの前で発表しました。自分が書いた文を見なくても スラスラ言える子がたくさんいました。子どもたちのプロフィール シートは英語室の外の壁に展示しています。
現在は季節に関する語彙を学習しています。それぞれの季節 でできること、見えるものなどについて話をしています。
【Year 5】 今月の歌 Playmate CD no. 25 5 年生は、this, that, these, those の違いを学習しています。こ の 4 つの表現は使い分けが難しいです。まずは、this と that の違 いを明確にしましょう。This is a book. That is a pen.本とペン、
どちらが近くにあるでしょう？お家でも使ってください。
また、f や th のつく早口言葉も練習しました。ｔh は日本語にはな い音なので難しいです。Thursday（木曜日）はとても言いづらい ですよね。子どもたちは聞いた音をまねすることが得意ですか ら、音をたくさん聞き、何度もまねをして言う練習をしてください。
今月の語句は、sm-, sn-, st, sw のつく言葉です。Smile, snow, stop, swim など聞き慣れた言葉がたくさん出てきます。朝学習で 書く練習をするときは、つづりを覚えようと意識しながら書くこと が大切です。

【Year 1】 今月の歌 To Market CD no. 37
1 年生は啓明で見ることのできる虫について学習しています。
学習した虫の中からお気に入りを 1 つ選び、絵を描きました。ま た、その絵を使い虫クイズもしました。黒板に何枚か絵をはり、3 つのヒントを聞いてどの絵の虫について話しているか当てるとい うクイズです。虫好きな 1 年生は夢中でした。子どもたちの作品 は、英語室の外の壁に展示しています。
【Year 4】 今月の歌 Wee Willie Winkie CD no. 67 4 年生は、｢I was born in ～. I was born on ～.｣ という表現 を使い、自分の誕生日や生まれた場所の言い方を学習しました。
日にちの言い方は、普通の数字の数え方と違い難しいですが、先 生の誕生日当てクイズやゲームをしながら楽しく学ぶことがで きました。また、学校で使う文房具や学校にあるもの、学校の部 屋など学校に関するものの名前の言い方も学習しました。英語で のヒントを元に、どの部屋のことを説明しているのか当てるクイズ や、神経衰弱などのゲームをしました。次回からは少し難しくなり ますが命令形を学習していきます。
今月の語句は、-ose, -one, -obe, -ote のつく言葉です。どの 単語も必ず-o-e になるというルールを覚えておきましょう。

２年生はレシピ作りをしています。ピザ、カレーライス、パンケー キ、またはサンドイッチの４つのグループに分かれて活動していま す。料理の順番を英語で書き出し、絵を描いていきます。そこに、
今まで学んできた調理法と調味料の語彙を使って、おいしくなる レシピを完成させています。
【Year 6】 今月の歌 Tingalayo CD no. 27
６年生は、大きな数の学習をしました。英語の大きな数は日本語 とは全く異なり、そのまま日本語で置き換えてしまうと頭がこん がらがってしまいます。学習を始める際に子どもたちには日本語 で置き換えて考えないこと、英語で数字を学ぶことを伝えまし た。最初は全然分からないと言っていた子も、様々な数に触れる ことによって段々慣れていきました。これからニュースなどでも 大きな数が出てきます。今回学んだことを活かし、ニュースで使 われる数字の理解も深まればと願っています。
今月の語句は, ou, ow のつく言葉です。ｍouse に cow など音 は一緒ですが、つづりが異なります。中学生になると単語テスト も増えるので、今から勉強する癖をつけておきましょう。綴りが似 ている単語を繋げて考えられると覚えやすいかもしれません。

アフタースクール英語 1～2 年
今月は文化的な活動も行いました。｢タイ ダイ｣という方法でバンダナを染めました。
自分の使いたい色を英語で伝えるなど、ネ イティブの先生と英語でやりとりをしました。
来週のアフタースクールで返却予定です。
★学校では３回洗濯機にかけて洗いました が、ご家庭で初めて洗う場合は、色移りする 可能性がありますので、お気をつけ下さい。
アフタースクール英語 3～6 年
文化的な活動では、｢タイダイ｣という染め物をしました。3～6 年生は枕カバーを染めました。始めに好きなデ ザインを選び、輪ゴムをつけていきました。その後、4 年生から 6 年生は自分で色を決め、染めていきました。そ れぞれ個性的なデザインができあがりました。来週のアフタースクールで返却予定です。★学校では３回洗濯機 にかけて洗いましたが、ご家庭で初めて洗う場合は、色移りする可能性がありますので、お気をつけ下さい。
1st graders started learning long vowel sounds. We have moved through the long “a” sound as in train, play and plane, to the long “e” sounds as in we, feet, and peach. Students are having a lot of fun playing with these different sounds.
Beginning this week, we are moving to the long “i” sounds.
2nd graders are learning how to write a letter to a friend. The students can now identify different parts of a letter and what to write in those areas. Last week I got a heartwarming letter from one of them as part of class work. In addition to letter writing, we also studied capitalization, and when to use “I” or “me” in their writing.
3rd graders completed questions for their High school seniors and returned to the “Senses”. We studied smell and taste this month. On the 18th we completed our sense of taste with a “Tasting Lesson”. Students enjoyed some strange
combinations like “salt and chocolate”, “lemon juice and persimmons” and lots of other silly combinations. We had a great class.
4th graders learned about note taking and how we don’t need sentences but what we write still needs to make sense. Lately they have been busy collecting notes for their insects. In class we talked about pronouns and how useful they are. It is so much better to read “the students brought their notes to their class,” instead of “the students brought the students’ notes to the students’ class.”
All 5th graders took notes on their selected person for their biography presentation. Now they are working on organizing their notes at home, into a speech which they will later share with some of the other International students at a luncheon.
Mr. Okori’s 5th graders studied the problems of the environment, the greenhouse effect and how to manage energy at home. The students tried to calculate their carbon footprints and saw how wasteful we all are. During these classes, we also learned to reduce our carbon footprint by turning off the tap while brushing our teeth, recycle things, and to learn to reuse things when possible.
International English Club
Our song for this month is
“Boom Chicka Boom”. It has many versions that include English, Grandpa, Robot, and Astronaut styles. The students love choosing a verse to sing at the beginning of every club.
We have been reviewing what we learned in class during club: sentences, periods, and the long ‘a’ and
