【Year 1】 今月の歌 Hickory Dickory Dock CD no. 32 １年生は身体のパーツの学習を進めながら劇のセリフ を覚えるのに一生懸命です。エリックカール作の “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? ”を英語で演じま す。原作ではなく、一年間子どもたちが学んだ語彙、動物 の名前、色、動詞、食べるもの等を含め、オリジナルのスク リプトを使います。一年間の総まとめとして一年生全員で 力を合わせて発表します。

【English Play

英語劇 1～４年生】

いよいよ来月 3 月 2 日（木）は英語劇発表です。役も 決まり振りをつけて練習をしています。台本と音声を使 い、お家でも練習をして自分のセリフを完璧にしましょ う。国際英語の１年生は一般英語と一緒に劇をします。

国際英語の２年生は劇ではなく詩の暗唱をします。国際 英語の 3,4 年生は国際英語教室でミニプレゼンテーシ ョンを行います。衣装のご協力宜しくお願いします。

Plays and Presentations: March 2^nd is fast approaching. The first through fourth graders have all selected poems to read to the respective audiences that they should be practicing and gaining confidence and fluency in reading.

Year 1 and 2 will be up in the assembly hall with the domestic students. The first graders additionally have their scripts and should be practicing and memorizing their lines. (The poem need not be memorized.) As for costumes they will need to wear a pair of jeans and a plaid shirt. The second graders will need to explain why they chose that particular poem after reading it. They are asked to wear their uniforms.

Year 3 and 4 will be in the International English room. All students have selected two poems to share. One poem is to be memorized, whereas the second may be read. Students will be asked to explain why they chose these particular poems. They are asked to wear their uniforms. Parents we ask that you also prepare one or two poems to share with the group. We have found that the students love hearing the poems that you enjoy and chose to read to them.

Speech Contest: Yesterday the fifth and sixth graders attended Keimei’s 50^th Annual English Speech Contest for the junior and senior high. All the students did a wonderful job and we are quite proud of the English students who went on stage to read a short speech to the audience. They worked hard to write something appropriate for such an event and presented in loud, clearly understood voices. It was a valuable experience for them.

MobyMax On March 6^th at 4:30 pm, students will need to be completed with their MobyMax goals for the term. While this is homework, students may work during break time, after eating lunch and after school. All they need to do is ask an English teacher.

The times are as required:

1^st grade: 20 minutes each for Language, Early Reading Trio/Reading, Vocabulary/Phonics and Free (non-math modules) 80 minutes total 2^nd-6^th grades: 40 minutes each for Language, Vocabulary, Reading and Free (non-math modules). 160 minutes total Students need to check with the chart in the classroom to ensure that they complete their Free minutes as that cannot be easily listed on MobyMax.

Club: We did an original version of PPAP during club time on Valentine’s Day with Year 1 students. Students came up with their own words: I have a soap. I have a body. Uh, body-soap. I have a soap, I have a Valentine. Uh, Valentine-soap. Soap-Valentine-Body-Soap. SVBS. It was hilarious with the students dancing to their original creation.

Year 1 The students are working hard and moving very fast through the curriculum, we just finished the nouns, then moved on to verbs.

It was entertaining watching the students act out the verbs. We are currently working on the verbs for things done in the past.

Year 2 The green class are working on “Instructions”. As a class, students took instructions and made a “chain of people”. And for homework, they are to write instructions on “How to make a puppet”, due next week. I cannot wait to see what they come up with.

Yellow class just completed the silent “e” in our study of long vowel sounds and will be starting “capitals and commas” in a sentence from next class.

Year 3

The students have been working hard this term learning about various grammar points such as antonyms, contractions, and homophones.

Year 4 We are exploring the “Oceans” and discovering some curious creatures, fabulous fish and marine monsters among other things in the oceans of the world.

Year 5 The students are working in groups, studying about animals: Eagles, Whales and Gorillas. They started by learning how to take proper notes. They also studied the three parts of an essay: introduction, bodies and conclusion. And they are currently turning their notes into paragraphs for the essay on the animals they studied.

Year 6 The students have been quite busy learning about how to write a proper essay. We focused on introductions that contain background information and a statement of ideas, as well as conclusions that contain the statement of ideas again with the author’s thoughts and feelings on the topic. We took a break from essays to talk about the poem Jabberwock by Lewis Carol. We took what we learned and rewrote our own versions of these poems. They will be displayed soon.

英語プレゼンテーション】

先週 5,6 年生は、中高の英語スピーチコンテストに参加し、発表をし ました。5，6 年全員で A Whole New World を合唱しました。子ども たちは大きな舞台で堂々とスピーチしていました。友だちのスピー チを聞いて、来年は自分もやりたいと言う子出ています。また、先輩 たちのスピーチを聞いて感動している子もいました。
