【Year 1】 今月の歌 Hickory Dickory Dock CD no. 32 1 年生は、顔のパーツの学習をはじめました。子どもた ちが描いた顔の絵を黒板にはり、big eyes, small mouth などのヒントを元に、どの顔について説明しているのか をあてっこをします。
【Year 4】 今月の歌 Hey Diddle Diddle CD no. 50 4 年生は、今まで習った表現を使って自己紹介の練習 をします。自分の年齢・好きな物・持っている物・住んでい る場所を決まった型で言えるようにしましょう。
今月の言葉は、-u-e のつく言葉です。
【Year 2】 劇の音声 English Piko on OneDrive
2 年生は、英語で形の名前を学習しています。ハート (heart)や星(star)はよく聞きますが、長方形（rectangle）
や月（crescent）などはあまり使わない形なので、英語の 活動を通して聞き慣れるようにしています。
【Year 6】今月の歌 A Whole New World
６年生は、初等最後の 3 学期となりました。1 年の締めくく りもしつつ、中学校に向けて文法事項を整理していきます。
文法を耳から感覚で覚えられるように、英語の音を大切に 学習していきます。今月は May I～？と許可をえる表現を学 習します。今月の言葉は or, ar が含まれる言葉です。

5 年生は世界の国の名前を勉強します。国旗クイズ をしたり、自分の行ってみたい国の話をしたりしま す。日本語と発音が違う国や、全く違う名前がついて いる国もあります。その違いを探してみましょう。

【English Play
英語劇】
１年生から４年生は 3 月に英語劇を行います。2 年生から 4 年生は 2 学 期の終わりに配布された劇の台本とインターネット上の音声を使い、お 家でも練習をしてください。来週までには役を決定します。国際英語の 1 年生は一般英語と一緒に劇をします。英語の授業の時間を使って練習を 進めていきます。国際英語の 2 年生は劇ではなく自分の作品の発表をし ます。国際英語の 3,4 年生は国際英語教室でミニプレゼンテーションを 行います。来週までには役を決定します。子どもたちの成長した姿をお 楽しみにしてください！（3/2 １，２年 9:15～10:15 3,4 年 10:45～11:45）

英語プレゼンテーション】
5,6 年生は、2 月に中高の英語スピーチコンテストに英語の発表会 という形で参加します。全員で英語の歌を歌います。アラジンの”A Whole New World”を合唱します。YouTube で“A Whole New World”
を聞いて練習してください。カラオケなどいろいろなバージョンがあ りますのでぜひご活用ください。詳細は後日お手紙が出ます。
【Jet Test】
３～６年生は、２月の初旬に、1 学期に 受けた JET Test の第２回を受けます。
前回自分が合格した級よりも上の級に 合格することを目標に勉強しています。
1 年の締めくくりとして自分の成長が 少しでも見えることを願っています。
【1，2 年生】
今週は冬休み明け初めてのアフター スクールがありました。久しぶりのレッス ンで子どもたちは嬉しそうでした。
3 学期もよろしくお願いします
Plays and Presentations The 1st through 4th graders will be participating in a play or will be doing a presentation on March second, so please mark your calendars. All of the 1st and 2nd graders will be together in the assembly hall upstairs. The International and the Domestic 1st grade students will be doing an adapted version of Eric Carle’s “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” The Domestic 2nd grade class will be presenting Piko in English, while the International students will be sharing either a piece of writing or a poem of their choosing. The International 3rd and 4th graders will in the International English room. The students will be reading some of their favorite poems. Parents, join our fun and please bring one of your favorite poems to share with us.
The 5th and 6th graders will be participating in the junior high and high school speech contest. Some of the International students will be presenting their own presentations. All students, Domestic and International, will be singing “A Whole New World” in English.
Luncheon: Today, Friday, January 20th, we had a luncheon with all the International students. We used this time to introduce our new students: Sora Asai (Year 2) and Nanako Ozaki (Year 3). Both students are joining us from Thailand where they lived and schooled.
During this time we also handed out awards to deserving students for working very hard last term, and to also encourage those who didn’t get any awards to work hard so that they may earn one or more this term.
The following students earned our READING AWARD for keeping diligent track of the books read 2nd term: Sena Burt, Rio Sakai and Ashley Gray.
Earning a SPELLING AWARD for earning 9 or better on all tests are: Ashley Gray, and Hikaru Hayano.
Completing all homework on time to earn the HOMEWORK AWARD is: Loa Shigihara, Sena Burt, Raina Guilbeaux, Karina Numazaki, Julien Fleury, Alex Kulyk, Tom Ishii, Miku Tomita, Mai Kubokura, Saori Shishido, Yuki Sekine, Miyako Nakagawa, Ayaka Fujii, and Ashley Gray.
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, Loa Shigihara, Sena Burt, Jane Miwa and three earned a MOBYMAX AWARD for completing the most extra time on MobyMax.
MobyMax As a reminder students are required to complete 160 minutes (2nd-6th grades) or 80 minutes (1st grade) of MobyMax by March 6th. Students must work for 40 minutes each on Language, Vocabulary, Reading skills as well as non-math skills of their choice. (For first grade: 20 minutes each
Language, Early Reading Trio/Reading, Vocabulary/Phonics and non-math skills for a total of 80 minutes.) Hats off to the students who worked during break, way to use your time wisely. As amazing as it sounds, one student has already completed her 160 minutes of MobyMax for the term; way to go Miyako!
While this is homework, students may work during break time, after eating lunch and after school. All they need to do is ask an English teacher.
There are two new English programs for students to attend and practice, play with and improve their English. All students are welcome regardless of their grade or English abilities. Both Ms. Atkin and Mr. Okori hope to see you there.
Homework Help Starting this term, Ms. Atkin will be available to help students in understanding or completing their homework. Students need to only bring their work they would like help with. She will be available Monday 7th hour, 15:35-16:20.
Culture Corner In December of last year, the school started a new English program called “Culture Corner” inside the Hokusenryou with Mr. Okori. In this place students are free to practice their English skills by doing anything that interests them or any activity that makes them happy. They are allowed to play games, chat in English, do their homework and get help from the teacher, or ask questions about any topic they did not understand well during classes.
Culture Corner opens twice a week; Wednesdays and Fridays from 15:30 to 17:00. We want to encourage students to take advantage of this space to play, have fun and also learn new things. Students may come and go anytime they wish within this period on either or both days.

Culture Corner 去年の 12 月から Culture Corner という英語の新しいプログラムが始まりました。
ここでは自由に英語を使えます。英語でゲームをしたり、英語で話したり、宿題をしたり、先生に授業や 宿題の質問をしたりできます。この場所を使い、英語を使っていきましょう！
場所：北泉寮 時間：毎週水曜日と金曜日 15:30-17:00 （下校バスは通常です。）
