MOTOBE, Akari and HIOKI, Yoshiyuki: A case study on goal re-setting and forestation approach for a tree planting event Abstract: Many tree-planting events aim to create forests without a certain vegetation type as a target. For such planted “forest”, re-setting a clear target and finding an appropriate approach to reach that target is required. In this case study, we discuss an approach to re-set the target vegetation type at a factory’s tree-planting event area, in Tottori prefecture, Japan. The species composition and structure of surrounding climax and secondary forest were compared to those of the planted “forest”. Consequently, the Fagus crenata forest mixed with Betura grossa and Quercus crispula was identified as the long-term goal for the planting site. Additionally, tracing species composition between the climax and secondary forest was considered as an appropriate approach with which to set this goal.
