(1)Electronic Preprint for Journal of Information Processing Vol.23 No.4. Editor’s Message to Special Issue of Applications and the Internet in Conjunction with Main Topics of COMPSAC 2014 Nariyoshi Yamai1,a) It is our great pleasure to have the special issue of “Applications and the Internet in Conjunction with Main Topics of COMPSAC 2014” in the IPSJ Journal of Information Processing (JIP). This special issue is a successor of the special issue related to the IEEE/IPSJ International Symposium on Applications and the Internet (SAINT), which was started in 2001 as a memorial project of IPSJ’s 40th anniversary. Since 2013, the SAINT has been incorporated into the Annual International Computer Software & Applications Conference (COMPSAC). Among a wide range of topics covered by COMPSAC, several tracks cover a broad range of networking and computing technologies as well as advanced applications and services, which had been covered by the SAINT. COMPSAC 2014 was held in Vasteras, Sweden on July 21-25, 2014 and it was technically sponsored by IPSJ. This special issue was planned to publish papers based on those presented in COMPSAC 2014 and past COMPSAC or SAINT conferences, but also papers related to the above topics of COMPSAC. We received many paper submissions related to the Internet and its applications. Among 22 paper submissions, 11 submissions were from authors of papers presented at past COMPSAC or SAINT conferences including their workshops. Out of 22 submissions, 8 papers were accepted (i.e. 36% acceptance rate). In addition, we had three invited papers from major committee members of COMPSAC. The first paper is by Prof. Sahra Sedigh at Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA, who also served as a co-chair of Embedded and Cyber-Physical Environments track in COMPSAC 2014 and a COMPSAC 2013 program co-chair. The second paper is by Prof. Mohammad Zulkernine at Queen’s University, Canada, who also served as a COMPSAC 2014 organizing chair. The third paper is by Prof. Hiroyuki Ohsaki at Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan, who also served as a COMPSAC 2013 program co-chair. Consequently, we have 11 papers published in this special issue. Finally, I deeply appreciate great efforts and contributions made by all other editorial committee members of this special issue.. 1 a).
