People listened to music to mainly "appreciate" the music up till recently. At present, however, solid-audio players, Internet-delivered music data and so on have allowed us to listen to music not only for appreciation but also as back-ground music: we do other things (studying, running, and so on) while listening to the music. The ordinary music-player systems have been designed only for appreciation; they are not suitable for playing back-ground music. This paper proposes a novel music-player system that can be used for both ways of listening without explicit mode-change operations. This music-player always checks a user's situation of work, estimates his/her favorite type of music for the situation, and selects suitable musical pieces to be played. And that is designed not to interfere while listening to the music with the computer to do.. Copyright Ⓒ 2009 by Yusuke Takizawa. 1.
