2000 年４月の開学以降、APUでは100を超える国・地域 から若者たちが、この天空のキャンパスに集い、多様な価値 観や考え方に触れ、宗教や文化の違いを超えたつながりを 築いてきました。そして今、１万人を超える卒業生が世界の 様々なフィールドで活躍しています。
多様性というアジア太平洋地域の特徴を体現した環境の中 でAPUの学生たちは、マルチカルチュラルウィークなど、多 種多様な独自の活動を創り出してきました。学生たちはこう した協同的な活動を通して、文化や価値観の違いから時に は衝突しながらも、互いに知識や知恵を結集して課題を創 造的に解決していくことを学んできました。その中で築かれ た仲間との厚い信頼が、今日のAPUを支えているのだと確信 しています。APUでの様々な自主活動は、学生たちが十数年 かけて「自由・平和・ヒューマニズム」の実現を追求し、「国 際相互理解」を実践してきた証なのです。
本誌では、APUの学生たちが創り上げてきた活動のいくつ かを紹介しています。ぜひ、APUのもつ環境を存分に活用し てください。この環境にいることだけに満足せず、志をもっ て様々な活動に挑戦し、皆さんの世界を自ら切り拓いていっ てください。そのことこそ、「アジア太平洋の未来創造」の 一歩なのですから。
Since its inception in April 2000, students from more than 100 countries and regions have gathered at APU, experiencing diverse values and ways of thinking, and overcoming religious and cultural differences as they have established relationships with people from around the globe. We now have more than 10,000 graduates around the world, actively working in a variety of fields.
In an environment characteristic of the diversity of the Asia Pacific Region, students at APU have created a great variety of original activities, like our Multicultural Weeks. Through working together on activities like this, students experience other cultures and values and occasionally encounter conflicts, gathering knowledge and understanding and learning to creatively overcome differences through discussion. We believe that the deep trust and strong friendships that students develop through these activities are part of the foundation of APU. For the last ten-plus years, our students have been pursuing the realization of the values of "freedom, peace, and humanity" and exercising "mutual international understanding" through a wide variety of extracurricular activities at APU.
The students of APU are have showcased their many creative activities in this booklet. We sincerely hope that you make the most of the environment here at APU. If you need more, we invite you to challenge a variety of activities and make your own way. In this way, you will take the first step in making "the future shape of the Asia Pacific region".

Making friends across cultures in a first cross-cultural experience
新入生を中心とした国内学生・国際学生が、1泊2日の共同生活の中で 異文化交流を図るプログラムです。2004 年度より実施されており、毎年 度200 名以上の学生が参加している人気プログラムです。
2015年度はパイレーツ・オブ・カリビアンの世界観をベースに、参加 学生は5つの海賊船（チーム）に分かれて、仲間づくりゲームにチャレン ジしました。反対言語を積極的に活用したり、お互いの考えを理解し尊 重したりしなければ、ゲームはクリアできません。初めは見ず知らずの参 加学生同士も、2日目の終わりには本当の海賊のように団結し、友だちと いうかけがえのない宝物を得ることができました。
新入生の皆さん、ぜひ参加してみてください！授業だけでは味わえない 世界が待っています。
This program brings together domestic and international students, mainly new students, for one night and two days of cross-cultural exchange. The program began in 2004 and draws more than 200 students every year, making it very popular.
The theme in AY2015 was Pirates of the Caribbean. Students were divided into five pirate ships (teams) for icebreaking (get-to-know-you) games. The only way for the students to clear these games was to actively use their other teammates' language and understand and respect each others' thinking. At the beginning of the program the students were all complete strangers but by the end they had truly come together, like pirates, and gained the irreplaceable treasure of friendship.

APUだからこそ楽しむことができる、APUを代表するイベントです。 様々な国・地域の言語や文化などを、一週間を通してたっぷりと味わうこ とができ、年間を通して開催されています。企画・運営はすべて学生に より行われており、当該国・地域以外の学生もたくさん参加し、イベント を盛り上げています。各ウィークでは衣装の体験会、噴水広場でのパレー ド、料理の試食など、様々な催しが行われます。金曜日にはフィナーレ であるグランドショーがミレニアム・ホールで行われ、学内外の来場者で 長蛇の列ができるほど人気です。2015年度は17のウィークが行われ、国・ 地域以外にも、エンパワメント・ウィークやレインボー・ウィーク、吉本 興業とコラボをした大阪ウィークなどユニークなウィークが開催されまし た。今年は何ウィークが登場するかな？
A representative event series that can only be enjoyed at APU. Attendees can experience the language and culture of another country or region for a whole week. These event weeks are held throughout the year. Students are in charge of all planning and operation, with many students from outside the particular country or region participating to help make the event a success.
Each week features a variety of festivities, including costumes, parades, and food tastings. Friday brings the week to its finale with a Grand Show at Millennium Hall. These shows are hugely popular, drawing attendees from inside and outside the university and leading to long lines to get in. AY2015 saw a total of 17 weeks take place, among them
non-country/region-based weeks like Empowerment Week and Rainbow Week and also first-time ventures like the unique Osaka Week done in collaboration with Yoshimoto Kogyo. What weeks will appear this year? Oceania Week

Multicultural Weeks
普段別々に活動している様々な学生団体が一つとなり、地域にて交流行事 を企画・実施するプログラムです。2011年度より実施されており、豊後大野市、 大分市、日出町、北九州市、宗像市と、まるで本物のワゴンのように実施場 所を毎年度変えながら、地域住民との国際交流に努めています。
2015年度は福岡県宗像市にて、34 名の地域の小中学生と10 ヶ国出身 92 名のAPU生が、むなかたガイド（宗像大社でのウォークラリー）、ハラルチ キンカレーづくり、各国の伝統的な踊りや遊びの披露やその体験などを通じ、 異文化交流を深めました。実施にあたり、APU福岡校友会ら先輩たちが協力 してくれたことも、APUらしさの一つです。
1回生が参加対象です。他の文化や価値観を学びたいあなた、反対言語を使っ てみたいあなた、ぜひ参加してみてください！
In this program, various student groups that usually operate separately come together to put on exchange events for the local community. Since 2011, the program has gone to a new city each year, like a real wagon, to promote international exchange with local residents. So far the program has visited Bungo-ono City, Oita City, Hita Town, Kitakyushu City, and Munakata City. AY2015's event took place in Munakata City of Fukuoka Prefecture. 34 local elementary and junior high school students and 92 APU students from 10 different countries interacted with each other across cultures, taking part in activities like Munakata Guide (a walk rally at Munakata Taisha), Halal chicken curry cooking, and traditional dances and games from each country. The APU Fukuoka Alumni Association also cooperated with the event, in a true demonstration of the school spirit.
2003年度より実施されているAPUの学園祭「天空祭」は、2015年度に 13回目を迎えました。第13回は「世界は思ったよりも近い!? ～ Rainbow APU ～」をテーマとし、APUならではの多様性と地域住民との日頃からの 繋がりを七色の虹にたとえ、来場者に世界を間近で感じてもらえるような 多彩な学生企画が催されました。
今回の注目すべきポイントは、パフォーマンス企画やビルディング（棟内） 企画にて地域参加枠を設けたことです。それにより、従来フリーマーケッ トや物産展にとどまっていた地域住民との交流が、より広く深いものとなり ました。また、打ち上げ花火ではなくプロジェクションマッピングや七色の サイリウムによる演出で最後を締めくくったことも、APU生同士が交流を深 めるきっかけづくりとなりました。
APU's school festival, the Tenku Festival, began in AY2003 and was held for the 13th time in AY2015. The 13th festival's theme was "The world is closer than you think!? -Rainbow APU-," likening the diversity of APU and everyday connections with local residents to the seven colors of the rainbow. The festival included a wide variety of student-led events and activities allowing attendees to feel the world up close.
Especially notable about this festival were the community participation slots in the performance and building plans. Exchange with local residents, usually limited to conventional flea markets and product exhibitions, became deeper through this initiative. Further, rather than fireworks, the closing performance featured projection mapping and seven colors of glow sticks and gave APU students an opportunity to deepen their bonds even more.

APUスチューデント・オフィスでは、学生の自主活動を支援 するための制度を設けています。「自身の夢の実現のために」 「学内外の様々な人々と関わる機会として」「APUの環境をもっ
と活かしたい」など、それぞれの想いに合わせて、大学の制 度を活用できます。
継続的に自主活動に取り組みたい学生グループを支援する制度です。 大学に登録することで、学内の施設・備品の利用、広報活動をするこ とが可能になります。クラブ・サークルには誰でも自由に入ることがで き、また自分たちで新たに団体を作ることもできます（年2回春・秋）。 活動実績がある団体は、施設・備品利用の優遇や補助金の支給など、 より手厚い支援を受けることができます。各クラブ・サークル団体情 報は29 ページ以降をチェック！
This system supports students groups who want to engage in an activity for a longer term. Student groups who register with the university can use university equipment and facilities and carry out promotional activities. Anyone can create a new club or circle. The Student Office has a system to support students who wish to pursue their own activities. Whether students want to pursue their dreams, create opportunities to interact with other people on and off campus, or utilize the environment at APU, this system supports students as they pursue their goals and activities in their time here at APU.
1回きりのイベントの企画・運営を行う学生グ ループに支援を行う制度です。APU学生コミュニ ティーに良い刺激を与えることのできるイベントが 支援の対象です。活動時期がイベント終了までに 限定されますが、学生の新たな取り組みや挑戦を 支援する制度です。経費の補助や施設・備品の利 用など、一定の支 援を受けることができます。 2015年度は「TED X APU」「Global Business Case Challenge」「Lasting Light」など 24 委 員 会 が イ ベントを行いました。
This system supports student groups that organize one-time events expected to have a positive impact on the APU student community. Support is available in the form of subsidies and the use of University equipment and facilities. In AY2015, 24 Event Planning Committees organized events successfully. These events included “TED X APU,” “Global Business Case Challenge,” and “Lasting Light.”

This system supports students groups who want to engage in an activity for a longer term. Student groups who register with the university can use university equipment and facilities and carry out promotional activities. Anyone can create a new club or circle. The Student Office has a system to support students who wish to pursue their own activities. Whether students want to pursue their dreams, create opportunities to interact with other people on and off campus, or utilize the environment at APU, this system supports students as they pursue their goals and activities in their time here at APU.

This system supports student groups that organize one-time events expected to have a positive impact on the APU student community. A. 公認団体会議とは APU のクラブ・サークルの代表で ある公認団体が、団体として模範となるような活動を 提案する場です。実際の会議内ではクラブ・サークル 全体の活動への意識改善を図るべく、自分たちができ るボランティア活動や、学内での喫煙問題への対応な ど、学内外を問わず幅広く活動してきました。

A. The Premier Organization General Meeting is a place for the premier organizations, which are representative of the clubs and circles at APU, to propose activities that will serve as examples for all organizations. Q. 昨年度はどのような活動をしていましたか？
A. 初めはイベントを開催しようとしたのですが、その前に まず、イベントをするために必要な地域との信頼関係 を作っていくことが必要だと感じました。そのため昨 年度は基盤となる地域との繋がりを作ることに注力し ました。主な活動は、別府市役所と協力をしてポートフェ スタ、成人式、海浜清掃、リユースマーケットといった 様々なイベントを年間を通してサポートしてきました。 次第に様々な依頼を地域の方から受けるようになり、 地域との関係作りへの第一歩は達成できたと思ってい ます。

A. 活動における練習や成果もとても重要ですが、自団体
の活動の幅を広げるために様々な事柄に問題意識を向 けて欲しいですね。APU は様々な文化が入り混じる環 境なので積極的に物事に挑戦することで活動の幅が広 がると思います。色々な物事を達成するために一緒に 活動をする仲間と向き合い、協力し合ってもらいたい ですね。
Q. What sort of activities did you engage in last year?
A. At first we tried to put on an event but we realized that before we could do that we needed to establish a relationship of mutual trust with the local community. Because of this, last year we put our efforts into building connections with the local community as a sort of foundation. Our main activity was to cooperate with Beppu City Hall to support various events throughout the year, such as Port Festa, the coming-of-age day ceremony, the beach cleaning, and the reuse market. We have gradually begun receiving requests from local residents and I think we have succeeded in taking the first step towards creating a relationship with the local community.
Q. What would you like to see from clubs and circles at APU?
A. While it is very important for clubs and circles to practice and show achievements in their activities, I would also like each club or circle to concern itself with many issues with a view towards widening its own activities. APU is an environment in which many different cultures come together so I think if clubs and circles try new things proactively the range of activities will expand. I hope everyone will work together with their fellows to accomplish many things.

Q. What sort of activities does Yosshakoi do?
A. We go to various places to dance the yosakoi-bushi, a traditional dance from Kochi Prefecture that we perform with a modern arrangement. Aside from performances at on campus events, we also participate in public performances in Oita Prefecture and in YOSAKOI festivals in each prefecture. We are active throughout the year.
Q. How did you feel about celebrating your 10th anniversary in 2015?
A. We celebrated the 10th anniversary while feeling the weight of ten years of history. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, last year we held a public performance we organized ourselves. We looked back on the growth of Yosshakoi to that point and put

A. 「踊ることが楽しい！」それが一番のモチベーションです！ 練習量が多くモチベーションが下がることもありますが、 憧れの先輩方の上手な演舞を観て、先輩方に教えて頂いた 踊りを自分たちで覚えて、先輩たちのようにカッコよく踊れ るようになりたい、そしてそれを後輩達に受け継いでいき たい、その想いが私達を突き動かしてくれています。これ から入ってくる後輩達にもカッコいい姿を見せていきたいで す。

A. 2015 年度のスローガンは「一体感」でした。よっしゃ虎 威のメンバー間で一体感を築き上げ、お客さんと「心の キャッチボール」ができるようにしました。そして、よっしゃ 虎威の想いを、踊りを通してお客さんに伝えられるよう尽 力しました。2015 年は「賞」を 1 つの目標として色々な大 会に挑んだ結果、福岡県粕屋郡粕屋町で行われた「かす や祭り」にて優秀賞を受賞することができました！
Q. Where do you get your motivation?
A. Dancing is fun! That is our biggest motivation!
There are times when the practices are too much and our motivation goes down. But when we see our incredible seniors' (senpai) outstanding performances, we want to memorize the dances they taught us completely so we can learn to dance like them and pass those dances down to our juniors (kouhai). Those thoughts keep us going. We want to impress the juniors (kouhai) who will come in the future, too.
Q. What goals do you have for your activities?
A. Our slogan in AY2015 was "unity." We built unity among the Yosshakoi members and became able to trade our feelings back and forth with the audience. Also, we endeavored to convey our thoughts to the audience through our dancing. We set winning an award as one of our goals for 2015 and participated in many competitions. As a result, we were able to win an award of excellence in the Kasuya Festival held by Kasuya Town in Fukuoka Prefecture!

A. We use music as a medium to engage in exchange activities with the local community. Our members are mostly international students and they are from a range of countries so the group does not have a bias towards any one country. I think the appeal of our group is that our diverse members can become one (foster empathy) through creating music. Our main activity is practicing on campus and our performances are almost always for the local community.

に馴染みのある「ふるさと」を始め、世界の歌や平和 に関連した歌を皆で歌います。メンバーが多様な国・ 地域から集まっているという私たちの長所を生かして 『幸せなら手を叩こう』を 17ヶ国語で歌ったりするなど、
アレンジもしています。馴染みのある曲であればお客さ んと一緒に歌うことで国籍も年代も超えて 1 つになるこ とができますし、それが音楽の持つ大きな魅力だと考 えています。
Q. 何を目標にして活動していますか？
A. 地域との交流を続けて音楽を通して共感の輪を広げる
ことです。そのために練習ではまず初めに Musy Tone 内での共感を達成する必要があります。例えば、「優し
く歌う」ことを皆で一緒に練習をする時があります。「優
しく歌う」ことは感覚によるものなので、文化や個人に よって違った優しい歌い方があります。その違いを持ち ながらも、メンバーの中で共感できる優しい歌い方を見 い出していきます。そういった大変な練習 1 つ 1 つを乗 り越えることができるのはお客さんと 1 つになる喜びが その先にあるからですね。
Q. What sort of songs do you sing?
A. We use songs to interact with local residents so we choose songs that are familiar to Japanese people, like "Furusato," as well as songs from around the world and songs related to peace. Our members come from so many different countries and regions so we take advantage of that to, for example, sing "If You're Happy and You Know It" in 17 languages or to make new arrangements. When our group and the audience come together to sing familiar songs, we transcend nationalities and generations and become one. I think that is one of the great things about music.
Q. What goals do you have for your activities?
A. We aim to continue interacting with the local community to widen the circle of empathy through music. The first step towards doing that is for us to develop empathy within our group at practice. For example, sometimes we practice singing gently together. Singing gently is something that depends on one's own feelings so different cultures and different people do it in different ways. We're looking for a way of singing gently to which the members will all be able to relate, even with their individual differences. Getting through those kinds of challenges will lead us to the joy of becoming one with the audience.

しく歌う」ことは感覚によるものなので、文化や個人に よって違った優しい歌い方があります。その違いを持ち ながらも、メンバーの中で共感できる優しい歌い方を見 い出していきます。そういった大変な練習 1 つ 1 つを乗 り越えることができるのはお客さんと 1 つになる喜びが その先にあるからですね。
Q. What sort of songs do you sing?
A. We use songs to interact with local residents so we choose songs that are familiar to Japanese people, like "Furusato," as well as songs from around the world and songs related to peace. Our members come from so many different countries and regions so we take advantage of that to, for example, sing "If You're Happy and You Know It" in 17 languages or to make new arrangements. When our group and the audience come together to sing familiar songs, we transcend nationalities and generations and become one. I think that is one of the great things about music.
Q. What goals do you have for your activities?
A. We aim to continue interacting with the local community to widen the circle of empathy through music. The first step towards doing that is for us to develop empathy within our group at practice. For example, sometimes we practice singing gently together. Singing gently is something that depends on one's own feelings so different cultures and different people do it in different ways. We're looking for a way of singing gently to which the members will all be able to relate, even with their individual differences. Getting through those kinds of challenges will lead us to the joy of becoming one with the audience.

Q. E.I.G.O. を立ち上げたきっかけは何ですか？
A. APU という環境にいるのにも関わらずあまり英語を話す
きっかけのない APU 生や、普段から親切にしてくれている 別府市民の人たちに「恩返し」したいと思ったからです。 日本人学生と国際学生が混ざって交流しながら英語を話す 機会を作ろうと思いました。
Q. Why did you decide to start this circle?
A. I started this circle as a way of giving back to other APU students who may not have many chances to speak in English despite being at APU and also to the citizens of Beppu who are always so kind to us. I wanted to create an opportunity for Japanese and international students to interact and communicate with each other in English.
Q. E.I.G.O. の主な活動を教えてください
A. 学生や市民の方を対象に英語を教えています。亀川小学校
では毎週水曜日に簡単な英語を教えていて、翔青高校では 1ヶ月に 2、3 回 ESS( 英会話クラブ ) で授業を行っています。 また、年配の方を大分から APU に招き、カフェテリアで、 年配の方々のグループを対象に E.I.G.O. メンバーとの 1 対 1 での英会話をしています。
定期的な活動以外にも、宇佐市で小学生とハロウィンパー ティやクリスマスパーティを行ったり、亀川小学校の小学生 が APU に招いてキャンパスツアーなどをして APU 紹介をし ました！
Q. どのように英語を教えていますか？
A. 実際の国際学生の発音を聞いてもらって、一緒に発音の練
習をしています。最後に一緒にゲームをして楽しんでいま す！
Q. E.I.G.O. の活動の目標としているものは何ですか？
A. 一言で言えば「大きなグローバル NPO 法人です」。 今は、別府のみでの活動ですが、今後は別府以外の地域でも
活動をしていきたいです。英語を話したい人にたくさんチャ ンスを作りたいです！！
Q. What are your main activities?
A. We teach English to students and local citizens. We teach simple English at Kamegawa Elementary School every Wednesday and teach a class for the ESS (English Conversation Circle) of Shosei Senior High School twice or three times a month. We also invite senior citizens from Oita to come to APU to practice speaking English one-on-one with our members. In addition to our regular activities, we have also held Halloween and Christmas parties for elementary students in Usa City and also have invited students from Kamegawa Elementary School to APU and introduced APU to them by giving them a campus tour!
Q. How do you usually teach English?
A. We have the participants practice their pronunciation by listening to the pronunciation of international students. We also play a fun game together at the end!
Q. What are E.I.G.O’s goals?
A. Our goal is to become a large global NPO. We are currently only active in Beppu but in the future we hope to expand our activities in other areas as well. We want to provide many opportunities for people to speak in English!
