Reward for the Charitable, the True Believers and the Martyrs; and the Destination of the Disbelievers

Allah t he Exalt ed describes t he reward t hat He will award t o t hose who spend from t heir wealt h, whet her male or female, on t he needy, t he poor and t he meek,

びゅ∠ョ∠ヱ ⇔ゅレ∠ジ∠ェ ⇔ゅッ∇ゲ∠ホ ∠ヮzヤャやぴ

(and lend Allah handsome loan,) meaning, t hey give in charit y wit h a good heart seeking t he pleasure of Allah. They do not seek worldly rewards or appreciat ion from t hose t o whom t hey give in charit y. Allah's st at ement ,

び∇ユ⊥ヰ∠ャ ⊥ブ∠バ⇒∠ツ⊥Αぴ

(it shall be increased manifold,) indicat ing t hat He will mult iply t he good deeds from t enfold, up t o seven hundredfold and even more t han t hat ,

び∀ユΑ⌒ゲ∠ミ ∀ゲ∇ィ∠ぺ ∇ユ⊥ヰ∠ャ∠ヱぴ

(and t heirs shall be an honorable good reward.) t heirs will be a generous, handsome reward, a good dwelling t o ret urn t o and an honorable final dest inat ion. Allah's st at ement ,

(And t hose who believe in Allah and His Messengers -- t hey are t he Siddiqun) This complet es His descript ion of t hose who have fait h in Him and in His Messengers, by describing t hem as Siddiqun, t rue believers. Al-` Awfi report ed from Ibn ` Abbas about

⊥ユ⊥ワ ∠マ⌒ゃ⇒∠ャ∇ヱ⊥ぺ ⌒ヮ⌒ヤ⊥シ⊥ケ∠ヱ

び∠ラヲ⊥ボΑあギあダャや

(And t hose who believe in Allah and His Messengers -- t hey are t he Siddiqun) t hat it s meaning does not cont inue t o t he next Ayah,

び∇ユ⊥ワ⊥ケヲ⊥ル∠ヱ ∇ユ⊥ワ⊥ゲ∇ィ∠ぺ ∇ユ⊥ヰ∠ャ ∇ユ⌒ヰあよ∠ケ ∠ギレ⌒ハ ⊥¬へ∠ギ∠ヰぁゼャや∠ヱぴ

(and t he mart yrs (are) wit h t heir Lord. They shall have t heir reward and t heir light .) Abu Ad-Duha (st opped aft er he) recit ed,

び∠ラヲ⊥ボΑあギあダャや ⊥ユ⊥ワ ∠マ⌒ゃ⇒∠ャ∇ヱ⊥ぺぴ

(t hey are t he Siddiqun), t hen init iat ed recit at ion:

び∇ユ⌒ヰあよ∠ケ ∠ギレ⌒ハ ⊥¬へ∠ギ∠ヰぁゼャや∠ヱぴ

(and t he mart yrs (are) wit h t heir Lord.) Masruq, Ad-Dahhak, Muqat il bin Hayyan and ot hers said similarly. Al-A` mash narrat ed from Abu Ad-Duha from Masruq from ` Abdullah bin Mas` ud comment ed on Allah's st at ement ,

び∇ユ⌒ヰあよ∠ケ ∠ギレ⌒ハ ⊥¬へ∠ギ∠ヰぁゼャや∠ヱ ∠ラヲ⊥ボΑあギあダャや ⊥ユ⊥ワ ∠マ⌒ゃ⇒∠ャ∇ヱ⊥ぺぴ

(t hey are t he Siddiqun, and t he mart yrs wit h t heir Lord.) "They are of t hree cat egories,'' meaning t here are t hose who spend in charit y, t he Siddiqun and t he mart yrs. Allah t he Exalt ed said,

∠リΑ⌒グzャや ∠ノ∠ョ ∠マ⌒ゃ⇒∠ャ∇ヱ⊥ほ∠プ ∠メヲ⊥シzゲャや∠ヱ ∠ヮzヤャや ⌒ノ⌒ト⊥Α リ∠ョ∠ヱぴ

∠ユ∠バ∇ル∠ぺ

⌒¬へ∠ギ∠ヰぁゼャや∠ヱ ∠リΒ⌒ボΑあギあダャや∠ヱ ∠リΒあΒ⌒らzレャや ∠リあョ ユ⌒ヰ∇Β∠ヤ∠ハ ⊥ヮzヤャや び∠リΒ⌒エ⌒ヤ⇒zダャや∠ヱ

(And whoso obey Allah and t he Messenger, t hen t hey will be in t he company of t hose on whom Allah has best owed His grace, of t he Prophet s, t he Siddiqin, t he mart yrs, and t he right eous.)(4:69) Therefore, Allah made a dist inct ion bet ween t he Siddiqin and t he mart yrs, indicat ing t hat t hey are of t wo dist inct cat egories, so t here is no doubt t hat Siddiq is a bet t er st at us t han t he mart yr. Imam Malik bin Anas recorded in his Muwat t a' t hat Abu Sa` id Al-Khudri said t hat t he Messenger of Allah said,

(The people of Paradise will look at t he dwellers of t he loft y mansions as one looks at a brilliant st ar far away in t he east or in t he west on t he horizon, because of t heir superiorit y over one anot her.) On t hat t he people said, "O Allah's Messenger! Are t hese loft y mansions for t he Prophet s whom none else can reach'' The Prophet replied,

⌒ぶゅ⌒よ やヲ⊥レ∠ョへ ∀メゅ∠ィ⌒ケ ∩⌒ロ⌒ギ∠Β⌒よ ヶ⌒ジ∇ヘ∠ル ヵ⌒グzャや∠ヱ ∩ヴ∠ヤ∠よ

(No! By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! t hese are for men who believe in Allah and believe in t he Messengers.) Al-Bukhari and Muslim also collect ed t his Hadit h. Allah's st at ement ,

(and t he mart yrs wit h t heir Lord.) means t hat t hey will be in t he gardens of Paradise, as recorded in t he Sahih:

(The souls of t he mart yrs live in t he bodies of green birds, who fly wherever t hey wish in Paradise and t hen ret urn t o t heir nest s in chandeliers. Once your Lord cast a glance at t hem and said, ` Do you want anyt hing'' They said, "We wish t hat You ret urn us t o t he life of t he world, so t hat we may fight in Your cause and be killed as we were killed t he first t ime.'' Allah said, "I have decreed t hat t hey shall not be ret urned t o it again.'') Allah's st at ement ,

び∇ユ⊥ワ⊥ケヲ⊥ル∠ヱ ∇ユ⊥ワ⊥ゲ∇ィ∠ぺ ∇ユ⊥ヰ∠ャぴ

(They shall have t heir reward and t heir light .), means t hat Allah will grant t hem a generous reward and a t remendous light t hat will precede before t hem. In t his, t he believers vary regarding t he level of reward t hey receive, according t o t heir good act ions in t he life of t his world. Imam Ahmad recorded t hat ` Umar bin Al-Khat t ab said t hat he heard t he Messenger of Allah say,

«

(There are four ranks of mart yrs. The first is a man who believes and who is t rue in fait h, who meet s t he enemy (in bat t le), fulfills his dut y t o Allah and is killed. This is t he t ype t hat t he people will look up t o (his level in Paradise), like t his.) The Prophet raised his head unt il his cap fell off his head, and t he same happened t o ` Umar. The Prophet cont inued,

(The second is a believer who meet s t he enemy and is st ruck by a st ray arrow which causes him t o die. This believer is in t he second grade. The t hird is a believer who has combined good deeds wit h evil deeds; he meet s t he enemy and is t rut hful t o his dut y t o Allah unt il he is killed.

This is t he t hird cat egory. And t he fourt h is a believer who has commit t ed sins excessively, so he meet s t he enemy and is t rut hful t o his dut y t o Allah, and is killed. This is t he fourt h cat egory.) ` Ali bin Al-Madini also report ed t his Hadit h and said, "This Egypt ian chain is Salih useful.'' At -Tirmidhi said, "Hasan Gharib.'' Allah's st at ement ,

(But t hose who disbelieve and deny Our Ayat -- t hey shall be t he dwellers of t he blazing Fire.) ment ions t he dest inat ion and t he condit ion of t he miserable ones, aft er Allah ment ioned t he dest inat ion and rewards of t he happy ones.

∇ツ∠ヘ∇ャや ヱ⊥ク ⊥ヮzヤャや∠ヱ ⊥¬べ∠ゼ∠Α リ∠ョ び ⌒ユΒ⌒ヌ∠バ∇ャや ⌒モ

(20. Know t hat t he life of t his world is only play and amusement , pomp and mut ual boast ing among you, and rivalry in respect of wealt h and children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayt h), t hereof t he growt h is pleasing t o t he t iller; aft erwards it dries up and you see it t urning yellow; t hen it becomes st raw. But in t he Hereaft er (t here is) a severe t orment , and (t here is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And t he life of t his world is only a deceiving enj oyment .) (21.

Race wit h one anot her in hast ening t owards forgiveness from your Lord, and Paradise t he widt h whereof is as t he widt h of t he heaven and t he eart h, prepared for t hose who believe in Allah and His Messengers. That is t he grace of Allah which He best ows on whom He is pleased wit h.

And Allah is t he Owner of great bount y.)
