2．成果の概要
1) 千葉県生涯大学に通学する60-70歳代学生の口腔内診査および骨密度調査
高齢者が社会環境の中で能力を再開発し心豊かに生きることは、来るべき超高齢社会において重要な意味を示し ている。このたび館山市および千葉市の生涯大学校に通う 60 ～ 70 歳代学生の歯数、咬合、骨密度を調査する機 会を得たので、8020 達成者に対して行った同様の調査結果と比較検討し、彼らの 8020 達成への可能性を探った。
対象者は、館山市生涯大学校に通う男女 43 名、千葉市生涯大学校に通う男女 46 名である。口腔内診査の結果、
平均現在歯数は館山市 25.1±4.6 本、千葉市 25.7±4.6 本で、反対咬合はみられず良好な咬合を示した。骨密度 (BUA) の平均値はそれぞれ 75.2±22.0dB/MHz、72.0±17.0dB/MHz であり、男女とも同年代に比較して高い値 を示した。生涯大学校生は歯数が多く良好な咬合を有し、高い骨密度を示したことなどから、将来 8020 達成が期
待できると考えられた。

2) Change in dentition over 20 years from third decade of life.
Purpose: Previous studies have documented long-term, age-related change in the teeth, dental arches and occlusion. However, very few studies have investigated longitudinal age-related change in the dentition using 3-dimensional (3-D) measurement. The purpose of this study was to clarify age-related change in the dentition using a laser scanner. Materials and methods: Subjects were selected based on near-normal occlusion. We investigated age-related variation in the dentition using 3-D measurement. Results: Age-related change in the dentition was characterized by a decrease in maxillary and mandibular width, an increase in maxillary length, and a decrease in mandibular length. Measurement of angulation revealed that the maxillary canines and molars were mesially inclined. We observed labial inclination of the maxillary incisors, and lingual inclination of the mandibular incisors, as well as the maxillary and mandibular canines and molars. Overjet, overbite and the irregularity index all showed an increase, while occlusal vertical dimension showed a decrease. Multiple regression analysis indicated that lingual inclination of the lower central incisors was related to an increase in the irregularity index, and that lingual inclination of the upper canines and decrease in occlusal vertical dimension of the anterior teeth were related to increased overbite.
Conclusion: The present findings showed that age-related changes in angulation and inclination of each tooth should be taken into account when providing osslusal rehabilitation or post-orthodontic retention.

3) Management of bilateral impacted upper canines by single tooth dento-osseous osteotomy.
When it is difficult to treat impacted teeth with orthodontic traction, surgical techniques including intentional luxation, autografts and distraction osteogenesis may be performed. However, these techniques are associated with problems such as root resorption, gingival recession and pulp circulatory disorders after extrusion. Single tooth dento-osseous osteotomy is considered to be a surgical techniques with minimal effect on the pulp and periodontium. We used this methods to treat a patients with impacted permanent canine teeth. After concomitant single tooth dento-osseous osteotomy and orthodontic treatment, root resorption of the bilateral canines was kept to a minimum and pulp vitality was confirmed. This methods may be effective in patients in whom ordinary traction is difficult.

4) Relationship between biological apatite alignment and hemi-occlusion in rabbit mandibular cortical bone.
Biological apatite (BAp) crystallite c-axis alignment is known to one of the factor in mechanical function in bone. The purpose of this study was to investigate BAp crystallite alignment as a potential factor in the evaluation of bone strength in clinical practice by evaluating the relationship between BAp alignment and bone mineral density (BMD) using an experimental hemi-occlusion model in rabbit mandibular cortical bone. A higher degree of BAp crystallite c-axis alignment was observed in the mesiodistal direction on the nonocclusion than on the occlusion side in the alveolar area, a tendency that was not seen in the base of the mandible. No significant differences were observed in BMD between the alveolar area and the base of the mandible or between the occlusion and non-occlusion sides. No correlation was observed between BAp crystallite alignment and BMD. These results demonstrate that removal of occlusal force caused change in BAp crystallite alignment in the
alignment in addition to BMD in clinical practice. Moreover, clarification of BAp crystallite alignment in the jawbone would allow direction of occlusal load to be taken into account in orthodontic
treatment involving tooth alignment.
