メリカ英語コーパス（COCA）に当たってみると，elevator talk（1例），elevator speech（3例），elevator pitch（2例） がヒットする。 The elevator talk is the 15‑ to 30‑second talk you would give to a senior executive while both of you are in an elevator. It s your chance to impress that person, so make the most of it. （TechRepublic, Sept. 17, 2007, 10 tips for increasing your professional visibility and exposure）。余談になるが，
talking elevatorと言うと，音声案内装置付のエレベーター
のことである。

イメージ・キャラクター
「特定の企業や商品のイメージを強調するため，CMや 広告モデルとして起用されるタレントや俳優たち」を指 し，英語ではposter boy ［girl ; child］などと呼ぶのが 一般的だが，image characterがそのまま使用されている 用例に出合った。手元のコーパスでもヒットしないが，
『ジャパンタイムズ』紙を検索すると3例出てくる。カ タカナ語辞典類も和製英語扱いをしているが，徐々に市 民権を得つつある表現と考えてよいのかも知れない。今 後も継続して用法の実態調査をしたい。
（例文） Actress Kyoka Suzuki, 40, violinist Akiko Su-wanai, 36, and model Maiko, 23, will be image charac-ters for Shiseidos new high quality cosmetic brand Re-vital Granas. カラコン
「カラーコンタクトレンズ」の略。それほど一般的な略 称と考えていなかったが，毎日新聞の「みんなの広場」
欄で カ ラ コ ン 健 康 第 一で規 制す べ し （July 28, 2008）という見出しが使われていた。早速，三省堂『国 語辞典＜第6版＞』を覗いてみると，カラコンの見出し は無いが，「カラー」の項の②に， ―コンタクト〔略し て『カラコン』〕とある。英語では無論，color ［colored ; tinted］ contact lensと表現しなければならない。
（例文） According to the Ministry ［the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare］， about 5 million color con-tact lens ［sic］ are imported a year, mainly from South Korea. Prescriptions are not needed for color contact lenses that are used as fashion accessories and which do not correct vision. They can be sold without a medical prescription at daily goods shops. The ministry said 167 people have reported health troubles stemming from the use of color contact lens in the past two and half years.
Twenty‑one have suffered serious damages to their eyes.

口パク
前回（Ⅺ）でも，lip‑synch ; virtual performanceの用例を 取り上げたが，北京オリンピック開会式でも「口パク」
が話題になった為，他の説明的表現を紹介したい。
（例文） Miaoke, a third grader, was judged cute and appealing but not suitable as a singer. Another girl, Yang Peiyi, 7, was judged the best singer but not as cute. So when Miaoke opened her mouth to sing, the voice that was actually heard was a recording of Peiyi. ［The New York Times, Aug. 12, 2008］（小3の（林）妙可は可愛 くて魅力的だが，歌い手としては「相応しくない」

Except the voice was not hers. クレーマー
日本語で使われるクレーマーは，「正当なクレームでは なく，不当［理不尽］なクレームと言える難癖・いちゃ もんをつけてくる人」を指し，英語のclaimerは「権利 の要求者」の意でネガティブなニュアンスはない。三省 堂の『大辞林』（第3版）には，「苦情を申し立てる人。
特に，本来の苦情の領域を超えて，あら探しのような苦 情を企業に寄せたり，執拗に抗議を繰り返したりする人 をいう。常習的苦情屋」とある。英語では，(chronic)
complainerと表現する必要があろう。有難いことに，
三省堂『ウィズダム英和辞典＜第2版＞』には
com-plainerの訳語の1つに「クレーマー」が添えられている。
ついでに言えば，新語やカタカナ語の採録が貧弱で，他 社に後れを取っていた『広辞苑』（岩波書店）の最新第 6版にようやく「クレーマー」が採録された。

ゲリラ豪雨
「局地的に短時間に大雨が降る集中豪雨」による被害が 相次いでいる。発生の予測が難しいところから，ゲリラ と名付けられたようだ。この項を執筆時点では，『英辞 郎 on the Web』には英訳例が見当たらないが，実例を チェックしてみると，guerilla downpour ; guerilla squall という表現が使われている。
（例文） Its been another season of wacky weather. The summer started with scorching heat across most of Japan that was broken only by torrential rain, which in turn triggered a number of deadly floods. Agency issued a heavy rain and flood advisory for To-kyo s 23 wards. The advisory was only upgraded to a warning more than 30 minutes after the tragedy took place. That indicates the rain was localized and intensi-fied suddenly. It was clearly the kind of torrential rain that is sometimes called a guerrilla downpour. ［IHT/

コピペ
「コピー・アンド・ペースト」の略。9月1日放送の NHKテレビ「クローズアップ現代」のタイトル 脳の 活性化にどう使うコピペ にも使われていた。殆どの言 葉を端折ってしまうカタカナ（英）語の隆盛を改めて思い 知らされる。英語では省略せずに，copy and pasteと言う。
因みに，カット・アンド・ペーストの方は邦文略語が定 着していないようである。
（例文） Professors and librarians talk about plagiarism and other issues of academic integrity a lot more than they used to, said Barbie Selby, a university librarian, be-cause research is so much easier to do now. It takes just a couple of clicks to copy and paste a passage from an on-line source into a paper, rather than going to the library, finding the right books and copying something by hand.

シャカシャカ
携帯音楽プレーヤーなどのヘッドフォンから漏れる擬声 語だが，これに相当する英語表現を拾った。
（例文） Yes, the tinny tss‑tss of headphones can be annoying, but the poster s command ― please do it at home ― is grim, unnerving stuff. What it seems to be saying is that the country that for ever changed the world with the invention of the Walkman would now prefer its people to abandon portable music altogether, especially when the rancorous older generation is anywhere nearby.

セフレ
「セクフレ」とも言い，SFとも略す。セックスフレンド を表す若者言葉。『英辞郎 on the Web』を覗くと，「＜和 製英語＞セックスフレンド◆【標準英語】sexual com-panion」とあり，三省堂『ウィズダム和英辞典』には
bedmateと英訳されている。また，研究社『新和英大辞典』
は，セックスフレンドの見出しが無く，セックス・メー トからセックス・パートナーを参照する形で，sexual
［sex］ partnerと出ている。Urban Dictionaryに当たると，
sex friendが採録されていて，fuck friend ; bonk buddyと 同義と説明され用例が3つ挙げられている。その内の1 例を引くと， Its nothing to worry about, your mum and I are
just sex friends. となっている。コーパスで調べてみると，
BNCとTimeコーパスではヒット件数がゼロで，アメリ カ英語コーパス（COCA）では3件ヒットする。手元の 辞典類も和製英語扱いだが，sex friendの実例を紹介し たい。
