よくあるご質問にお答えします！
子どもは日本語を話して良いのですか？日本語禁止の英会話教室もあるようですが
当たり前なことですが，子どもにとって英語で言えることはとても限られています。そして，気持ちが強く動いたときに，得意な言葉 日本語 が溢れ出るのは自然なことです。色々な考え方があるとは思いますが，初等学校英語科では，思ったことを何でも言える教室 にしたいと考えています。子どもの思いに対して，先生がていねいに英語で応えることで，「こう言いたいときは，英語でこう言うの か！」という体験を積み，少しずつ英語で言えることが増えていきます。少しずつ上達していくのを，焦らず見守っていきましょう。
高学年で単語帳を使ったり，スペリングテストをやったりしないのですか？
英単語を学習するときは，単語帳で覚えるよりも，文脈のある場面で使いながら身につけることが大切です。単語だけ知っていても，
使い方がわからなければ役に立たないからです。また，英語の綴りには例外が多く，正確に身につけるのは大人にとっても難しいもので す。初等ではスペリングテストは行っていませんが，高学年は授業でやり取りした内容をワークシートで読む・書く活動を行っています。
文法は教えないのですか？
文法を教えるというと「 動詞」や「三単現」などが思い浮かぶでしょうか？確かに授業ではそのような文法の「説明」はしていませ ん。しかし，先生が親切に説明してあげなくても，子どもたちは自力で英語のルールをつかみ取ることができます。「自分のことを言うと きは と言うんだ！」「 って何だかおかしいぞ！」のように，子どもは無意識に「文法」を身につけていきます。文法は 知識として「知っている」ことよりも，技能として「使える」ことが大切です。

【Year 1】 【Year 2】
Ms. Atkin’s class has finished the short and long vowels. Now to create sentences. We are working on Silly Sentences that will be on display for Learning Celebration Day.
Mr. Okori’s class completed their verbs, learned how to write questions, then studied the popular folk song“A hunting we will go” by Thomas Arne.
Our original versions will be displayed for Learning Celebration Day.
We learned about asking good questions, ones that do not have yes/no answers. Then we wrote questions for a teacher of our choice who answered our questions. Lastly, we wrote thank you letters to them after learning about the structure of a good letter.
Both of these works will be on display for Learning Celebration Day.
【 Year 3 】 【 Year 4 】
We are on our last sense: Taste. In learning about the other four sense we practiced using them in class. So, what will we taste?
For Learning Celebration Day our interviews of the Sr. High student and our thank you letters to them will be on display.
They will have a stage presentation for Learning Celebration Day too. All students need to wear jeans. Daiki, Yuichiro, Yuuya, Miho, Hikari and Mina need a solid red top. Marie, Aoi, Ryojiro, Ken and James need a solid green top.
Big or small, vibrant or dull, we have studied insects and did research on one insect of our choosing. We are now putting all this research together on a sweet poster.
For Learning Celebration Day, our insect posters will be on display.
They will have a stage performance for Learning Celebration Day too. All students need to wear jeans and a top of any solid color.
【Year 5】 【Year 6】
Year 5 students each studied the biography of a famous person of their choice and will be making video presentations on their chosen persons for the Learning Celebration Day. Their group posters on solutions to the problems they observed in our environment will also be on display during the period.
Our Year 6 students recently went on a school trip to Hiroshima, Miyajima, and Kyoto. They each wrote a five paragraph essay and haiku about their trip. They are currently working on editing their final essays for display during coming Learning Celebration Day.

【ALO English Club】
Our students are having a great time studying their English in a non-classroom environment. The most interesting game recently was the “verb-adverb” game where they learned to give instructions for others to act. What will be your response if told to: “Talk crazily”, “run painfully”, or “sleep noisily”? These were some of the funny instructions they came up with.
【Culture Corner】
Apart from using the Culture Corner for completing their homework, making origami craft, and playing English games;
this month we went outside twice to play tag. The students had so much fun that they didn’t want it to ever end.
