Unzen (Unzen City, Nagasaki Prefecture) is Japan’s first designated national park. Its main tour- ist attraction, Unzen Onsen, reopened after a refit in December. Unzen Jigoku has been transformed into an interactive experience at which it’s possible to feel geothermal heat in a steam foot bath and eat eggs cooked with that same steam. At the Daikyoukan Jigoku Observatory, visitors can see powerful jets of steam erupting with enormous force.
