(2) Communication-based-Meetings Support System for Improvement of Continuous Creative Meetings Hideki Katagiri School of Knowledge Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology March 2009 Keywords: CSCW, Creative support system, Meeting Support System This paper describes the development and evaluation of Communication-based-Meetings Support system for the improvement of (continuous) creative meetings. We found that participants discussed more about the generated idea after the regular meeting and thus shape their ideas more easily. The AdvancedLogger system that we designed and developed has two functions to support participant's actions in asynchronous distributed environment. The first function is to support the communication-based-meetings (to understand ideas). The second function provides personal workspace (to arrangements of ideas). In our experiment we evaluate the effects of two functions on continuous creative meetings. In the experiment, we compared the effects using the system of 3 types. The first system (AL-1) has only function is to arrangements of ideas. The second system (AL-2) has only function is to understand ideas. The third system (AL-3) has two functions. One group was formed with four people, and it experimented by six groups in total. The evaluation of the experiment was based on the idea of group in creative meetings, system log, and questionnaires. The increasing rate of each item of the quantity and the quality (fluency, flexibility, originality) of idea in each system at the third conference was evaluated. As a result, it turned out to provide the effect of increasing fluency and flexibility of the idea as function to arrangements of ideas. Moreover, It was suggested that there be a possibility that user's idea is obstructed by the effect of the restriction installed in communications in the function to understand ideas. Moreover, When the subjects use the system that enabled the use of two functions, the possibility that the effect achieved when each function was used lowers was suggested. Because the frequency for which each function is used becomes half the number. As a future works, we grope for a more effective way to install the restriction to the content of communications.
