Description. – CBM-ZW 1055, length 30 mm, width 2.0 mm, posterior abdomen lacking, 20 segments in thorax, 7 in abdomen. CBM-ZW 1056 - 1060, length 20 to 40 mm, width 1.5 to 2.0 mm, 20 to 35 segments although almost of all worms lacking posterior abdomen. Alcohol preserved womrs light brown in color. No information in a color in life. Prostomium with compact tentacular membrane, with many eye-spots. Peristomium expanded ventrally to form ventral collar (Fig. 1A). Lateral lobes absent. Two pairs of dichotomous branchiae on segments 2 and 3, inserted dorsally. Anterior and posterior pairs similar in size, but sometimes anterior one slightly larger. Main stalks of branchiae annulated, and poorly developed in distal parts (Fig. 1A, B). Notopodia from segment 4, continuing for 17 segments (up to segment 20). Notopodia rectangular, with notochaetae directing to dorsal side. Notochaetae arranged in two rows, narrow-winged, broad-bladed, smooth-tipped capillaries (Fig. 2A). Neuropodia from segment 5 (chaetiger 2), continuing to pygidium. Thoracic neuropodia elongate tori. Abdominal neuropodia shorter, erect pinnules with uncini, size of tori progressively declining posteriorly. All uncini avicular, short handled, uncini of 7th uncinigerous segemt with dental formula MF:2-3:1-2 (Fig. 2B, C). Abdominal uncini with dental formula MF:2-3:2-3(Fig. 2D). Uncini initially arranged in single rows (Fig. 2B), from 7th uncinigerous segment arranged in double rows (Fig. 2C) to end of thorax and then arranged in single row again on abdomen (Fig. 2D). Dorsum smooth. Ventrum with thoracic ventral pads distinct, rectangular and raised, continued on last segment of thorax (Fig. 1B). A pair of nephridial papilae present on segment 3, small, located on basal side of second branchia. Four pairs of genital papillae present on segments 6, 7, 8 and 9, hemispherical and elongated in males (Fig. 1A), glandular, encircling notochaetae in females (Fig.1C), located dorsally, behind or encircling respective notopodia (Fig. 1A, C). Morphological variation. – Smaller worms has smaller and poorly developed branchial crown. In smaller worms, eye-spots apeared as distinct rows comparing to larger one. Remarks. – Nicolea sinensis had been described from Che-Foo (current name Yantai), located on the.

Fauvel (1932) reported that thoracic uncini in this species had 2 to 3 teeth on main fang (Fig. 1d, p. 35 of Fauvel, 1932), and it was confirmed by SEM observation as in Fig. 2(B D). Fauvel (1932) noted that uncinal rows has doubled from 6th uncinigerous tori; the segment first appearing as double rows of uncini is 7th uncinigerous tori in the Tokyo Bay specimens.. Figure 1. (4) 14. 西 栄二郎 ほか. Discussion Eight species of Nicolea have been recorded in the Western Pacific. Nicolea amnis Hutchings and Murray, 1984 has 16 pairs of notopodia and poorly developed dichotomously branchied branchia, Nicolea armilla Hutchings and Smith, 1997 has 18 notopodia, well developed branchied branchiae, small papillae on segment 3, hemispherical elongated papillae on segments 6 and 7; N. minima Hartmann-Schroder, 1984 has 15 notopodia. The newly recorded Nicolea sinensis is different from those species by having 17 notopodia and genital papillae on 6, 7, 8 and 9 segments. Nicolea gracilibranchis (Grube, 1878) has 17 notopodia and papillae on 6th and 7th segments (Tanaka & Nishi 2005). Five species, Nicolea angustiscutis Caullery, 1944, N. longibranchia Caullery, 1944, N. willeyi Caullery, 1944, Nicolea koehleri Caullery, 1944, N. incerta Caullery, 1944, have been recorded by Sigoga Expedition and have 17 notopodia (Caullery, 1944). Among those congeneric species with 17 notopodia, N. sinensis is characterized by having genital papillae on segments 6, 7, 8, and 9, and having two rows of teeth above maing fang of thoracic uncini..
