講義目的及び到達目標 The purpose of this course is to give students opportunities to practice using their Engl ish in order to help them become more confident and comfortable doing so and more f luent.
講義内容・授業計画 This course will be conducted only in English. All of the materials and speaking and wr iting and teaching will be in English. Translating back and forth between English and J apanese is not a part of this course. Each student needs to make effort to use only Engl ish while in class. Using Japanese in class will prevent students from making the best u se of the opportunities to practice using English and will prevent other students from h aving the most opportunities to practice using English. Therefore, the final grades of st udents who use Japanese in class regularly will be very low.
Speaking activities will be the most common activity in class, for example, speaking wit h classmates in pairs or small groups and asking and answering questions orally. There will also be some writing done in class. The homework will involve reading in order to prepare for quizzes and for that day's speaking and writing activities.

成績評価の基準・方法 Final grades will be based on participation in class (50%) and quizzes (50%). Continual use of Japanese in class will result in a lower final grade.
履修上の注意・履修要件 Only students signed up for the Global Leader Education Program/Global Education Un it can take this course.
This class is scheduled to be conducted in person on campus. However, depending on t he number of students enrolled, as a measure against coronavirus infection, the studen ts may need to be divided into classrooms which are connected online, or the students may need to take classes online from home every other week. Therefore, students will need to arrange for an Internet environment using a PC or tablet, Wi-Fi, etc. The final d ecision about this will be made after registration is completed, and students will be not ified about any changes at that time.

備考 Improving foreign language abilities takes a lot of time and effort. If you really wants t o improve your English, then you must do more than just the required work in the Engl ish courses you are taking. A few other things you can do on your own to help you to i mprove your English abilities are read books, newspapers, and magazines in English, w atch or listen to the news or other broadcasts in English, write a journal or diary in Eng lish, speak English into a recorder and listen to it afterward, meet with friends and spe ak only in English for a predetermined length of time (maybe half an hour), and remem ber new words or grammatical structures that you come across while reading or listeni ng to English.
