Abstract
Eye movement measuring exercise is one of the ten advanced exercises which are assigned to the senior students at Department oflnformation Processing. The purpose of the exercise is to familiarize the students with basic biological measurement techniques and to help them to extend understandings on some typical optimal control functions of biological systems which are interesting from the viewpoints of control engineering and robotics. A special computer aided measuring system has been devised in order to help the groups, each consists of five students to finish their measurement assignments within a three-hours session.
The measuring system is programmed using VISUAL C++ as an application of general-purpose projects (Gpp) which has been developed by the author. The Gpp consists of four fundamental classes and libraries. The main program class comprises the functional programs such as input/output, disk filing and AID converter control, etc. The libraries provide powerful functions arranged in a hierarchy structure. The basic level consists of dynamic memory allocation, matrix operation complex operation, etc. Libraries related to graphics and system analyzing programs as FFT and digital filtering are built upon the functions provided in the basic level.
The measuring system has guided almost all groups (32 groups in one semester) to obtain successful results concerning the features of saccade eye movement with constant velocity within the limited time of the exercise.
