Abstract: The high turnover rate of new university graduates has been a serious problem in Japan in recent years. Studying how university students plan their career strategies may reduce the problem. The term, “Career Strategy” has often been used; however, the question we must ask is, “What does it mean academically for undergraduate students?” The discussion is currently very limited. What we wish to do in this paper is to answer that question from the point of view of “competitive strategy as a narrative story,” a term for competitive strategy. We will use a case study of a former Minimum Weight Boxing Champion’s career strategy. Although further research is necessary in order to apply the findings in a practical way, in career education for undergraduate students, we believe that it is important that students create a “concept of career,” and differentiate the components between themselves and others in order to plan effective career strategies. (Key words: career education, career strategy, competitive strategy as a narrative story, concept of career)
