An Application of Equity Theory to Interpersonal Relations： APreliminary Study

This study was designed to test the applicability of equity theory to interpersonal relations． Eighty−two female undergraduates were asked to assess equity／inequity alld emotional qualities of the relatiollships with their best same−sex and opposite−sex friellds． They also assessed various aspects of their exchanges as inputs or outcomes．
The results were as follows：
1） Consistent with equity theory， perceptions of equity／inequity were related to emotional qualities．
2） Results of multiple regression analyses indicated that assessments of each other，s input and outcome as a whole were determined by different aspects of their exchanges．
