A music festival called “Ensembles Tokyo” will

be held on August 30. A large furoshiki

(tradition-al Japanese cloth) artwork will be placed over the

stage on Gyoko Street inside the Marunouchi side

of JR Tokyo Station; on this various musicians will

perform. OTOMO Yoshihide and Rully SHABARA

from Indonesia will appear. A music performance

workshop (available for a fee) for the general public

will also be held.

“I

didn’t just want to be able to speak Japanese,

I wanted to completely become like a

Japanese person,” says Duncan MARK. He

speaks the language so fluently that you might think

he was Japanese. “I didn’t only want to master the

language, but also the correct pronunciation, behavior

patterns, and mindset – this was a big challenge for

me.” Mark was the only American to take the first

standard university entrance exam (an entrance exam

used by Japanese public universities and some private

universities that is currently, it’s called the National

Center Test for University Admissions).
