Abstract:The  treatment  of  Gender  Identity  Disorder(GID)is  currently  conducted  in  accord- ance with Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of GID . However, there are few medical  institutions  which  can  presently  provide  such  treatment. We  initiated  a  GID  Meeting  in  Feb  2004, to regulate the treatment at our hospital along the guidelines. In addition, crosssex hor-

mone  treatment  for  GID was  approved  by  the  Fukuoka  University  School  of  Medicine  Ethical  Review  Board  in  Dec 2004,  and  this  treatment  commenced  in  March 2005. In  addition, treat- ment  for  GID  by  means  of  a  mastectomy was  approved  by  the  Fukuoka  University  Hospital  Clinical  Research  Screening  Committee  in  Aug 2006  and  the  first  operation  was  performed  in  April 2007. The number of patients seen at Fukuoka University Hospital until March 2007 was  167(MTF:63, FTM:104). As for the characteristics of these cases, they are similar to the cases  reported  by  other  institutions. In  the  future,  the  number  of  such  cases  is  expected  to  increase  thus necessitating further consideration regarding the treatment and support of GID patients.
