次の英文を読んで、以下の問いに答えなさい。I went to Singapore to spend my summer holidays with my uncle. He lives in Queen Street, which is a very busy and crowded area of Singapore. I was surprised to see the activities people do throughout the day.
As I lived in a village near *Mali, I had no idea that life would be like this in a crowded city. In my village,①I was an early riser. Here, instead of the songs of birds in the morning, I heard the cries of *hawkers and *vehicles. Singapore goes to sleep after( ② )and the new day starts at four o'clock in the( ③ ). There is so much noise everywhere that the people are not completely affected.
One day, I went to the neighbor's house to play with some other children. It was really nice to meet some kids and see how they lived. Their parents told me that their children would never get any time to play. Early in the morning they go to school and come back tired late in the evening. Not only that, the preparation for next day's schoolwork takes more time, they rarely go out to play. This was very surprising to me.
In our village, things are quite different. The natural surroundings, clean water, fresh air and relaxed lifestyle give us energy and make our lives peaceful and enjoyable. There is absolute calm with no noise from cars or hawkers. Unlike Singapore, people in our village live simply like one big family. Of course, there are no modern *amenities like public transport, hospitals or motorways. However, we never miss what we do not have.
Another time, I was thinking to visit a *suburb of Singapore. My uncle took me to the station to take an electric train. The trains moved very fast and people were riding crowded trains. This seemed frightening to me and I had no courage to get inside the train at all, so we returned to Queen Street.
Despite this, I enjoyed visiting my uncle and my experience in Singapore, although, I have to admit, I felt very *relieved when I returned back to my village.
*Mali マリ(シンガポール内の地名) *hawkers 行商人
*vehicles 乗り物 *amenities 設備 *suburb 郊外
*relieved 安心して
