Abstract
The formal creation of the "survey course" category in 1994 signalled the beginning of the new curriculum at Osaka Institute of Technology. The subjects in this category have attracted a growing number of students so that the management of the "survey course" is now one of the main educational issues at OIT.
At present, we have three subjects classified as a "survey course" - "Humans in the Environment," "Human Rights and Development," and "Time and Space." The. distinctive feature of these subjects is that they are inter disciplinary and interactive. Since OIT students are eager to enlarge their field of knowledge and develope their creative thinking, the "survey course" subjects that combine an interdisciplinary approach with interaction are well received. However, due to the large number of students in each class, the interactive element of the "survey course" is currently underemphasised.
In this paper, we examine the subject "Time and Space" to see how well it comfom1s to the criteria of the "survey course" category. We also propose the need for a further project as a follow-up to this original.
