The c u 1 t i v a t e d v a r i e t i e s and s t r a i n s o f a l f a l f a a r e u s u a l l y s e l f ‑ s t e r i l e and l e s s c a p a b l e o f a u t o m a t i c t r i p p i n g ， and 50 t h e i r s e e d y i e l d d e p e n d s on t h e a c t i v i t y o f p o l l i n a t i n g ' b e e s . The r e l a t i v e i m p o r t a n c e o f honey and w i 1 d b e e s d i 旺 e r s g r e a t l y among d i f f e r e n t l o c a l i t i e s . I n g e n e r a l ， t h e r e a r e a g r e a t number o f honey b e e s on a l f a l f a畳 owers predomInan t 1 y ， and most o f t h e v i s i t i n g honey b e e s a r e n e c t a r ‑ g a t h e r e r s which do n o t t r i p t h e f l o w e r s . i n t h e c o o l e r and humid a r e a s (BOHART ， 1 9 5 7 ; FREE ， 1 9 7 0 ; MCGREGOR ， 1 9 7 6 ) . In c o n t r a s t most s p e c i e s o f w i l d b e e s p o l l i n a t e a l f a l f a much more e 伍 c i e n t l y t h a n n e c t a r ‑ g a t h e r i n g h o r i e y b e e s and somewhat more e f f i c i e n t l y 出 血 p o l l e 時 a t h e r i n ghoney b e e s (BOHART ， 1 9 5 8 )
Many s t u d i e s on t h e r e l a t i o n s h i p s between v a r i o u s f l o w e r s and w i l d b e e s have been done i n HoH 坦 i d o .
