The p r o t e i n i s o f good q u a l i t y ， b e i n g n e a r l y e q u a l t o c a s e i n i n v a l u e . There a r e many p r o b l e m s o f a d a p t i n g t h e s o y b e a n t o t h e f o o d n e e d s o f t h e d e v e l o p i n g w o r l d . The m a j o r i t y o f t h e d e v e l o p i n g c o u n t r i e s which need a d d i t i o n a l p r o t e i n s a r e i n t r o p i c a l and s u b t r o p i c a l a r e a s . While s o y b e a n s a r e grown i n s u c h a r e a s ， f o r example i n T h a i l a n d and I n d o n e s i a ， y i e l d s a r e l o w . The h i g h y i e l d i n g v a r i e t i e s o f t h e t e m p e r a t e z o n e must b e s u b j e c t e d t o s e l e c t i o n and b r e e d i n g t o make them a d a p t a b l e t o t r o p i c a l and s u b t r o p i c a l c o n d i t i o n s ， i f t h e i r h i g h y i e l d s a r e t o be r e a l i z e d . C o n c o m i t a n t l y ， t h e r e must b e a c o m p l e t e e v a l u a t i o n o f t h e c u l t u r a l p r a c t i c e s n e c e s s a r y t o a t t a i n and m a i n t a i n h i g h y i e l d s
