FOREWORD

Special Section on Foundations of Computer Science

We are happy to publish this special section on Foundations of Computer Science. This is the sixth section on this title. The main goal of this special section is to review and promote recent progress in the field of foundation of computer science.

This special section includes an invited paper by Professor Toshimitsu Masuzawa at Osaka University, 15 regular papers, and one letter. Topics of the selected papers include approximation algorithm, automata theory, computational learning theory, computational complexity, distributed computing, graph theory, information security, optimizing algorithm, quantum computing, and term rewriting system. These papers were selected among 23 submissions through careful review.

As the Guest Editor of this special section, I greatly appreciate all authors for their contributions and the work of all reviewers for their constructive comments. I am grateful to the members of the Editorial Committee listed below for their work.

Hirotsugu Kakugawa (Nonmember) received the B.E. degree in engineering in 1990 from Yamaguchi University, and the M.E. and D.E. degrees in information engineering in 1992, 1995 respectively from Hiroshima University. He is currently an associate professor of Osaka University. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society, IPSJ, and LA Symposium.
