Moon

KJFC 例会(於ジャズカントリー)

2017 年 7 月 22 日(土)

嵯峨通子

三年ほど前の事、敬愛する 菅 伸一氏が、ご自身が所属されるヴォーカルの会において「

Moon

特集」をさ

れました。ジャズには、こんなに 「

Moon

」に関連する曲があるのだ・・・とその時あらためて、気づかされ

ました。

Blue Moon

Moon River

」はよく知っている曲です。

その他にも、月を題材にした数々の名曲がひしめいていました。

こんなにたくさんの「Moon」に関連する曲があるのであれば、菅氏がされたレジュメを参考にさせていただ

き、また、自分の勉強のためにも、

「特集」を組んでみようか・・・と思うに至りました。

まず、いくつかの歌詞をチェックしていて気づくのが、アメリカにおいての「月」の捉え方が日本人の感性

と大分隔たりがあるという事でした。

ジャズになっている「

Moon

」がつく曲の「月」は、

「月」には、魔力、魔性のようなものが秘められていて、

その月明かりで、恋に誘導されてしまったり、女性の虜になってしまったりします。月の不思議な力を強調

する曲が多いように思えました。月が出ない日には、どうやって恋を語ったら良いのかわからなくなってし

まいます。

一方、我が国 日本での「月」は信仰が伴っている事が少なくありません。

月の満ち欠けが、作物の成長に影響を与えられていることから、十五夜にお団子を供えて「月」に感謝をさ

さげます。

幼い頃に初めて口にした「お月さま」の歌は「う~さぎ、うさぎ、何見てはねる~~十五夜お月さん見ては

~~~ね~~る」というものでした。初めて聞いたおとぎ話、かぐや姫は「月」からの使者で、十五夜の日、
月に帰って行きます。
幼い頃から思う「月」は魔力を秘めているのではなく、
「憧れの世界」であり、近づきがたい存在で、一目置
くもの・・・。日中の太陽とともに、夜の月もまた、祖先への、作物の収穫への、そして日々過ごせる事への
「感謝」の対象となっていました。
全く、別の興味からですが、日本人に馴染み深い「百人一首」には、
「月」を詠んだものってどのくらいある
だろう・・・と数えてみると、月、夜半の月、有明の月など・・・なんと
11 首もありました。
その中で私が好きなのは
月見れば千々に物こそかなしけれ我が身ひとつの秋にはあらねど 大江千里
嘆けとて 月やは物を 思はする かこちがほなる 我が涙かな 西行法師
天の原 ふりさけみれば 春日なる 三笠の山に いでし月かも 阿倍仲麻呂
月を目撃者にして、よそ事を言いつつ、或いは、月に自分を重ねる事で、心情を表現します。そして、そこ
に月の風景とともに、周りの情景も浮かびあがって来ます。ストレートな物言いはありません。
また、ジャズでは、たくさんの曲がある「星」ですが、 星を詠んだ歌はありませんでした。日本人にとっ
ては、月への想いの方が強いせいでしょうか。ジャズにおける「
Moon
」は、陽気で軽やかな、いかにも魔法
にかかって恋に落ちてしまう風であったり、「夜」のしずけさの中にうかびあがる「
Moon
」に気持ちを反射
させて、しっとりさせてみたり・・・。様々な「曲調」を楽しむ事ができます。
どうしてもヴォーカルが中心になりますが、演奏のみのジャズの醍醐味を感じられるものも、夫のアドバイ
スにより、プログラムにいれてみました。ご承知の通り、私は、ジャズの内容に関して解説する技量はあり
ませんので、歌詞なども比較できるよう調べて載せてみました。
さて・・・、今宵のお月様は、明日が新月なので、殆ど見えません。
(明日
7/23 は、獅子座の新月)
MOON RIVER
アポロ計画の真っ只中に誕生した曲。シナトラの録 音テープは、アポロ10号、11号にも積み込まれ、人 類が月に最初に持ち込んだ曲となった 水玉模様のドレスの女の子に出会う 月の光に照らし出されて輝いてい た・・・ それから不思議な現象に 遭遇する。 ムーンリバーは実在する川だった・・・。作詞家 JOHHNY MERCERの故郷のバックリ バーという川。「ティファニーで朝食を」に使われて、歌が有名になって、故郷の川も実際、 ムーンリバーと名を変えてしまったほど。 その時、月は黄色で、夜は若かった・・・いつかまた会えると思っていた・・・。そして見よ!再会の今、私の愛は 黄色で、夜は若い。
MOON LOVE
太陽の東側の月の西側のところに いつか二人の家を建てるのが夢
月の光線に、恋人に魔法をかけて欲しいと頼む。愛を再び、蘇らせたいという願い。
ブルームーンのブルーは「青」という意味ではなく、一ヶ月の二回目の満月の意味。「稀な」という意味がある。ダブルが 「ブルー」になったのでは?という説もある。 夜毎、形を変え、姿を変え、移ろいゆく月に、愛しい人を重ねて、憧れを表現する。 眩しく、儚く、空の高みにあって決して手の届かない存在
Blue moon, Whadda you do in the evening You saw me standing alone, When you don't know what to do? Without a dream in my heart, Read a book? Play a game? Without a love of my own. Every night it's just the same!
Whadda you say if I tell you Blue moon, How to keep from feeling blue? You knew just what I was there for. My advice is good to take, You heard me saying a pray for And it's easier to do!
Someone I really could care for. When you're all alone, any old night, And you're feeling mighty blue, Blue moon, Pick up your hat, close up your flat, You saw me standing alone, Get out, get under the moon. Without a dream in my heart, Underneath the bright silvery light, Without a love of my own. You'll be feeling better soon!
Pick up your hat, close up your flat, Blue moon... Get out, get under the moon. Without a love of my own. Ba-da-da-da-da-da,
Look, look, look at those stars above, Ah look, look, look at those sweeties love!
№20
East of the sun and west of the moon
Oh boy, give me a night in June,
I mean it!
East of the sun and west of the moon When you're all alone, any old night, We'll build a dream house of love, dear And you're feeling out of tune, Near to the sun in the day Pick up your hat, close up your flat, Near to the moon at night Get out, get under the moon. We'll live in a lovely way, dear When you make a date, any old night,
Living our love in pale moonlight You're gonna meet your sweetie soon, are yah, huh? Well then pick up your hat, close up that flat, Just you and I, forever and a day Get out, get under the moon.
Love will not die, we'll keep it that way Underneath that bright silvery light, Up among the stars we'll find You'll be feelin' better soon! A harmony of life to a lovely tune Pick up your hat, close up your flat, East of the sun and west of the moon, dear Get out, get under the moon. East of the sun and west of the moon Ba-da-da-da-da-da,
Walk, walk, kiss and then walk again, Just you and I, forever and a day And talk, talk, kiss and then talk again, Love will not die, we'll keep it that way Oh boy, sweethearts are all in tune, Up among the stars we'll find I mean it!
A harmony of life to a lovely tune When it's raining out,oh, stay in your flat, East of the sun and west of the moon, dear But on a lovely night in June,
East of the sun, west of the moon Pick up your hat, close up your flat, East of the sun and west of the moon Get out, get under the moon.
I Wished On The Moon
Fly me to the moon I wished on the moon, for something I never knew Let me play among the stars I wished on the moon, for more than I ever knew Let me see what spring is like A sweeter rose, a softer sky
On a-Jupiter and Mars On April days that would not dance away In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me I wished on the stars to throw me a beam or two I begged of a stars and asked for a dream or two Fill my heart with song I looked for every loveliness, it all came true And let me sing for ever more I wished on the moon for you
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore I wished on the moon, for something I never knew In other words, please be true I wished on the moon, for more than I ever knew In other words, I love you A sweeter rose, a softer sky
On April days that would not dance away Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more I wished on a stars to throw me a beam or two You are all I long for I begged of a stars and asked for a dream or two All I worship and adore I looked for every loveliness, it all came true In other words, please be true I wished on the moon, wished on the moon for you In other words, in other words I wished on the moon for you
I love  you
It's Only A Paper Moon
Moonlight Bay
It is only a paper moon (Sailing through the moonlight, sailing on the bay) Sailing over a cardboard sea We were sailing along on Moonlight Bay But it wouldn't be make-believe We could hear the voices ringing If you believe in me They seemed to say
It is only a canvas sky "You have stolen her heart" Hanging over a muslin tree "Now don't go 'way"
But it wouldn't be make-believe As we sang love's old sweet song on Moonlight Bay If you believe in me (We were sailing along on Moonlight Bay)
Without your love (We could hear the voices ringing) It's a honky-tonk parade (They seemed to say)
Without your love "You have stolen her heart" It's a melody played "Now don't go 'way"
In a penny arcade (As we sang love's old sweet song on Moonlight Bay) It's a Barnum and Bailey world We were sailing along on Moonlight Bay
Just as phony as it can be We could hear the voices ringing But it wouldn't be make-believe They seemed to say
If you believe in me "You have stolen her heart" (You have stolen her heart) Without your love "Now don't go 'way"
It's a honky-tonk parade As we sang love's old sweet song on Moonlight Bay Without your love (Sailing through the moonlight on Moonlight Bay) It's a melody played
In a penny arcade №19
Moon Love
It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be Will this be moon love, nothing but moon love,
But it wouldn't be make-believe Will you be gone when the dawn comes stealing through? If you believe in me Are these just moon dreams, grand while the moon beams?
But when the moon fades away, will my dreams come true?
№3
Magic Is The Moonlight
Much as I love you, don't let me love you.
If I must pay for your kiss with lonely tears, say it's not moon love. Magic is the moonlight Tell me it's true, say you'll be mine when the moon disappears. On this lover's June night
As I see the moonlight №17
Moonray
Shining in your eyes.
And this is the power Moonray,
In this moonlit hour Cast your spell upon my lover; Love begin to flower Under this starlit cover, This is paradise. Use all your magic charms. Living in the splendor of your kiss so tender Oh moonray,
Make my heart surrender Let your sweet enchantment blind you, To your love divine. Then I shall wait to find you
Magic is the moonlight Here in my lonely arms. More than any June night Once we knew the joy Magic is the moonlight, For it made you mine... Of girl in love with boy,
But he made a toy of romance.
№12
Moon and Sand
So moonray,
Put an end to all my sorrows, Deep is the midnight sea, Bless me with sweet tomorrows, Warm is the fragrant night, Bring back my love to me. Sweet are you lips to me, Once we knew the joy Soft as the moon and sand. Of girl in love with boy, Oh, when shall we meet again But he made a toy of romance, When the night has left us ? He made a toy of romance. Will the spell remain? So moonray,
The waves invade the shore Put an end to all my sorrows, Though we may kiss no more Bless me with sweet tomorrows, Night is at our command Bring back my love to me. Moon and sand Oh sunrays, moonrays, And the magic of love. Bring back my love to me.
(12)
Moon river, wider than a mile,I'm crossing you in style some day Couple of jiggers of moonlight and add a star Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker Pour in the blue of a June night and one guitar Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way Mix in a couple of dreamers and there you are Two drifters, off to see the world Lovers hail the Moonlight Cocktail
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend Now add a couple of flowers, a drop of dew My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me Stir for a couple of hours 'til dreams come true (Moon river, wider than a mile)(I'm crossin' you in style some day) Adds to the number of kisses, it's up to you Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker Moonlight Cocktail, need a few
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world,There's such a lot of world to see Cool it in the summer breeze
We're after that same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend Serve it in the starlight underneath the trees My huckleberry friend, moon river, and me(Moon river) You'll discover tricks like these
Are sure to make your Moonlight Cocktail please
№9
Moonglow
Follow the simple directions and they will bring
Life of another complexion where you'll be king
It must have been moonglow You will awake in the morning and start to sing
Way up in the blue Moonlight Cocktails are the thing
It must have been moonglow
That led me straight to you №5
Moonlight in Vermont
I still hear you saying
"Dear one, hold me fast" Pennies in a stream
And I start in praying Falling leaves of a sycamore
Oh Lord, please let this last Moonlight in Vermont
We seemed to float right through the air Icey finger waves
Heavenly songs seemed to come from ev'ry where Ski trails on a mountain side
And now when there's moonglow Snowlight in Vermont
Way up in the blue Telegraph cables, they sing down the highway
I always remember that moonglow gave me you And travel each bend in the road
It must have been moonglow People who meet, in this romantic setting
Way up in the blue Are so hypnotized by the lovely
It must have been moonglow Evening summer breeze
That led me straight to you Warbling of a meadowlark
I still hear you saying Moonlight in Vermont
"Dear one, hold me fast" Telegraph cables, they sing down the highway
And I start in praying And travel each bend in the road
Oh Lord, please let this last People who meet, in this romantic setting
We seemed to float right through the air Are so hypnotized by the lovely
Heavenly songs seemed to come from ev'ry where Evening summer breeze
And now when there's moonglow Warbling of a meadowlark
Way up in the blue Moonlight in Vermont
I always remember that moonglow brought me you You and I and moonlight in Vermont Moonlight in Vermont
№23
Moonlight Becomes You
You're all dressed up to go dreaming, now don't tell me I'm wrong
And what a night to go dreaming, mind if I tag along Moonlight becomes - it goes with your hair You certainly know the right thing to wear Moonlight becomes you - I'm thrilled at the sight And I could get so romantic tonight
You're all dressed up to go dreaming, now don't you tell me I'm wrong
What a night to go dreaming, mind if I tag along And if I say: "I love you" - I want you to know It's not just because there's moonlight - although Moonlight becomes you so
(13)
Moonlight Serenade.
Polka Dots And Moonbeams
I stand at your gate and the song that I sing is of moonlight A country dance was being held in a garden I stand and I wait for the touch of your hand in the June night I felt a bump and heard an "Oh, beg your pardon" The roses are sighing a Moonlight Serenade. Suddenly I saw polka dots and moonbeams
All around a pug-nosed dream
The stars are aglow and tonight how their light sets me dreaming. The music started and was I the perplexed one
My love, do you know that your eyes are like stars brightly beaming? I held my breath and said
I bring you and I sing you a Moonlight Serenade May I have the next one?
In my frightened arms, polka dots and moonbeams Let us stray till break of day in love's valley of dreams. Sparkled on a pug-nosed dream
Just you and I, a summer sky, a heavenly breeze kissin' the trees. There were questions in the eyes of other dancers As we floated over the floor
So don't let me wait, come to me tenderly in the June night. There were questions
I stand at your gate and I sing you a song in the moonlight But my heart knew all the answers A love song, my darling, a Moonlight Serenade. And perhaps a few things more
Now in a cottage built of lilacs and laughter
№26
No moon at al
I know the meaning of the words "Ever after"
And I'll always see polka dots and moonbeams No moon at all, what a night When I kiss the pug-nosed dream
Even lightnin' bugs have dimmed their lights
Stars have disappeared from sight №15
The moon was yellow
And there's no moon at all
Don't make a sound, it's so dark The moon was yellow, and the night was young
Even Fido is afraid to bark A smile brought us together,
What a perfect chance to park And I was wond'ring whether
And there's no moon at all We'd meet again someday
Should we want atmosphere for inspiration, dear The moon was yellow, and a song was sung
One kiss will make it clear That vocal inspiration gave me the inclination
That tonight is right and bright moonlight might interfere To give my heart away
No moon at all way up above Here we are! is our romance to continue?
This is nothin' like they told us of Will it be my luck to win you
Just to think we fell in love May I look that far? ah! my love is
And there's no moon at all Ah, my love is yellow and the night is young
Should we want atmosphere for inspiration, dear
One kiss will make it clear №28
What A Little Moonlight Can Do
That tonight is right and bright moonlight might interfere
No moon at all up above Ooh, ooh, ooh
Aww, this is nothin' like they told us of What a little moonlight can do
Just to think we fell in love Ooh, ooh, ooh
And there's no moon at all What a little moonlight can do to you
Aww, there's no moon at all You're in love
There is no moon at all Your heart's a flutter and all day long
No moon at all You only shutter Cuz your poor tongue
№7
Old devil moon
Just won't utter the words
I love you
I look at you and suddenly Ooh, ooh, ooh
Something in your eyes I see What a little moonlight can do
Soon begins bewitching me Wait a while
It's that old devil moon Till a little moonbeam comes peepin' through
That you stole from the skies You'll get bold
It's that old devil moon in your eyes You can't resist him
You and you glance And all you'll say
Make this romance too hot to handle When you have kissed him is
Stars in the night
Blazing their light can't hold a candle To your razzle dazzle*
*You've got me flyin' high and wide On a magic carpet ride
Full of butterflies inside Want to cry, want to croon Want to laugh like a loon
It's that old devil moon in your eyes Blinds me with love
To your razzle dazzle
(14)
Under boughs of evergreen, *Winter Moon
We find a hiding spot. I remember when I fell for you.
While the other children play, So delicious but so devious,
We praying we don't get caught. When you stole that kiss in my living room. Hide 'n seeking all the day Now you're gone, in the city livin' on your own
On and on into the night, But every snowfall I will think of you
'Til we start a snowball fight And the love we knew 'neath the winter moon
Beneath the winter moon Sometimes I call upon the stars,
I remember when I fell for you. To listen to my aching heart.
So delicious but so devious, The piano plays a wistful tune.
When you stole that kiss in my living room. About the days we would swoon. Now you're gone, in the city livin' on your own Beneath the winter moon But every snowfall I will think of you I remember when I fell for you. And the love we knew 'neath the winter moon So delicious but so devious,
On the A.M. radio, they're playing Christmas songs When you stole that kiss in my living room. So horrendously off key, you loudly sing- along Now you're gone, in the city livin' on your own
Cider simmers on the stove, But every snowfall I will think of you
Reading Dickins' by the glow And the love we knew 'neath the winter moon
of the light that lingers through the window* Every snowfall I will think of you
And the love we knew,neath the winter moon.
