This course is designed to increase your confidence in Japanese; develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills; and further your knowledge of Japanese culture. It will be held entirely in Japanese, and participants will be encouraged to engage in lively oral activities and a variety of reading tasks.

Reading texts will include authentic materials such as newspaper articles and short stories. The course tutors are our Japanese Language Advisors, Yoko Udagawa and Hiroko Tanaka.

The course is suitable for those with Japanese at approximately level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) and above. It is open to non-native speaking teachers of Japanese, as well as teachers and PGCE students who have the chance to offer Japanese in future. The course is free, but participants must cover their own travel, accommodation and lunch costs.

You can take a short self-assessment test if you are unsure of your level of Japanese. For teachers with Japanese at around JLPT level 3, please check our website for details of our Intermediate Refresher Course.

Feedback from 2008 Refresher Course participants:
