 2019年6月15日（土曜日）から17日（月曜日）までの三日間、早稲田大学国際会議場において、第6回 国際マムルーク会議（6th _{Conference of the School of Mamlūk Studies）を開催した。この国際マムルーク会議}

とは、シカゴ大学（アメリカ）、リエージュ大学（ベルギー）、ヴェネツィア・カ・フォスカリ大学（イタリア） の三者が中心となって組織された、前近代の中東・イスラーム史、特にマムルーク朝時代の歴史・社会・文化 を対象とする研究者の集う国際学会である。マムルーク朝とは、13∼16世紀にかけてエジプト・シリア・ヒ ジャーズ（聖地メッカ・メディナのあるアラビア半島西部）という中東イスラーム世界の枢要部を支配し、東 西交易の中継地として、また学術や文化の中心地として、政治的・経済的・文化的に繁栄を極めた、中世イス ラーム世界を代表する王朝である。この時代・地域の事象を対象とする研究領域は、狭義の歴史学の他、宗教 学、文学、イスラーム思想、文献学、建築学、美術、考古学など多岐にわたる。本学会は、このような多様な ディシプリンを架橋して、「マムルーク（朝）研究」という形で一つの研究のプラットフォームを提供している。 本学会の運営拠点はシカゴ大学に置かれ、そこでは研究雑誌であるMaml k Studies Reviewの定期刊行や、マ ムルーク朝研究のデータベース運営も行っている⑴。  本会の年次研究大会は今回で6回目を数え、これまでカ・フォスカリ大学（イタリア）、リエージュ大学（ベ ルギー）、シカゴ大学（アメリカ）、ベイルート・アメリカン大学（レバノン）、ゲント大学（ベルギー）にお いて開催されてきた。規模はさほど大きいものではないが、この分野の研究者の大半が世界中から集う、きわ めて質の高い研究集会となっている。今回、本学術院の大稔哲也教授の尽力により、早稲田大学が招致に成功 したが、海外を拠点に活動する中東・イスラーム研究のこのレベルの国際学会を日本で開催するのは、恐らく 初めてのことであった。  国際マムルーク会議は、例年、研究発表に先立って、若手研究者・大学院生向けの教育セミナーを実施し、 次代を担う研究者の育成にも力を入れている。今回は、カイロ大学教授で元エジプト文化大臣でもあるエマー ド・アブー=ガーズィー教授を講師として招き、6月12日（水曜日）∼14日（金曜日）の三日間にわたって「集 中講座：マムルーク朝期の文書史料（Intensive course: Mamluk Archival Material）」を戸山キャンパス33号館 第10会議室で実施した。セミナーには国内外から6名が参加し、アラビア語文書研究の大家であるアブー= ガーズィー教授の指導のもと、前近代のアラビア語の各種文書の特徴と性格を学び、読み方を習った。  今大会では、三日間で総計42の研究発表が行われた。発表者と発表タイトルについては、本稿の末尾にプ ログラムを添付したので、参照されたい。当日の参加者は100名を超え、日本の他アゼルバイジャン、アメ リカ、イギリス、イスラエル、イタリア、エジプト、オランダ、カナダ、クウェート、スペイン、中国、チュ ニジア、ドイツ、フランス、ベルギー、レバノン（50音順）の計17か国から、この分野の名だたる研究者が 報告者・参加者として集まった。  初日は、大会実行委員長の大稔哲也教授による開催の辞に続き、本大会のテーマである「マムルーク朝社会 における聖性（The Sacred in Mamluk Society）」に関する12本の研究発表が行われた。預言者やムスリム聖 者などの墓と参詣、聖地メディナについての叙述、王朝支配下のエジプトやパレスティナにおけるユダヤ教や キリスト教の聖者・聖 の問題など、多岐にわたる議論が提示された。これらの発表をもとに、オランダの老

舗学術出版社Brill社から、大稔哲也教授を編著者とする研究論文集を刊行する計画が進められている。終了 後には、大隈記念タワー15階のレストラン「森の風」にてレセプションを開催した。会場では、本学大学院 文学研究科出身でアラブ・ヴァイオリニストの木村伸子氏らによるアラブ音楽演奏が披露された。  二日目と三日目は、テーマごとに8つのパネルが立てられ、計30の発表が行われた。パネルのテーマは、 知識人ネットワーク、環境史、建築史、外交史、文献学など多岐に及び、活発な議論が繰り広げられた。三日 目の大会終了後には、日本食レストランで懇親会を行い、親睦を深めた。  前近代中東イスラーム史、マムルーク朝研究に関する日本の研究水準は、世界的に見ても非常に高い水準に ある。しかし日本の研究者による英語その他の言語による成果発信は、近年飛躍的に増加しているものの、欧 米や現地の研究者と比べこれまで後れを取ってきたことは否めない。今回の本会議の開催は、日本の研究レベ ルと個々の研究者の存在を世界へアピールするとともに、中東・イスラーム研究の拠点としての早稲田大学の 地位を高めることにもつながった。また、これを契機として海外の複数の大学から共同研究や学術交流の話が 持ち上がるなど、本格的な国際学術交流を深めるための、またとない好機となった。さらに、日本および本学 の若手研究者・大学院生には、今回の学術交流が強い刺激となって、将来の国際的な活躍につながることが大 いに期待されよう。  なお本会議は総合人文科学研究センターの本研究部門と、本学文学部・大学院文学研究科・中東・イスラー ム研究コース、The School of Mamlūk Studies、シカゴ大学中東文献センターとの共催によって実施され、運 営においては、総合人文科学研究センターの研究部門への補助の他、科研費「イスラーム期の西アジアにおけ る墓地と都市」（研究代表者・大稔哲也、研究課題番号19H0504）、公益財団法人鹿島学術振興財団国際研究 集会援助、公益財団法人三島海雲記念財団学術活動支援の助成を受けた。 大稔教授による開会の辞 会場の様子 発表の様子 集合写真
