体 育 ・ ス ポ ー ツ 史 に お け る ロ ー カ ル ・ ア イ デ ン テ ィ テ ィ ー 国 際 比 較 研 究 大 久 保 英 哲

1．研究の目的

現在の日本では伝統的文化共同体としての民族国家から個と個の契約的共同体に基づく近代国民 国家への移行期であるとする日本近代史の捉え方を根拠に､昨今の歴史学の動向､すなわち､国家に 収數されないさまざまな広がりを持った地域や集団の錯綜する｢場｣であったことを明らかにして､国家 の人為性･作為性･暴力性を暴き立てるやや短絡的な議論に類する研究が盛行している。

だが一方で｢国民国家世界システム｣そのものの相対化の必要性､一国史がそもそも成り立たない理 由の追求､の中で｢国民国家を相対化する｣視点も必要であろう｡本研究者はこれまで､近代日本体育 史のなかで､地方が基本的に中央の政策を受けとめる立場にありながら､その対応は決して一律では なく､地方の歴史､社会､経済的条件に規定された多様な変容が見られることを指摘し､体育･スポーツ 史における地方のアイデンティティー(ローカル･アイデンティティー)を明らかにする研究の重要性と必 要性を指摘してきた(拙著､明治期比較地方体育史研究､不昧堂､1998)。

今､世界史的に見ても体育･スポーツとローカリズムの歴史の多元的アイデンティティーに注目するこ とが重視されてきている｡例えば､集団の社会的､文化的､経済的統合あるいは分極化の問題､居住区、

地域､土着の文化､伝統､国民国家とスポーツ､ヨーロッパとアジア､あるいはそれ以外の地域間の比 較検討､グローバリズムとの対話を広げる文化的位相を問題にし､周縁と中心の間の複雑な社会ダイナ ミズムと多元的関係をスポーツの歴史を通じて明らかにすることが各国の研究者の共通関心となりつつ ある｡これらは具体的には､場所(｢場｣)の概念化の問題として表れ､制度的､政治的､心理的､経済的 に定義されるローカルな差異と地域的(かつ国家的)アイデンティティーとの間に存在する緊張関係､階 級､人種､民族関係､ジェンダー的偏見が､いかに空間､境界､ローカル性といった認識を浸透させる か､市民的伝統､公的プライド､場所を祝う発想の源泉について議論が展開されつつある｡その結果、

ローカルな特色の変化に際し､アイデンティティーを有するさまざまな境界が演じる役割などについての 研究テーマが生まれ始めている｡とくにスポーツは､ある集団や集合体に帰属しているという個人のアイ デンティティーを強化することにそもそも深く関与してきたために､居住区や村､町､都市､県(州)ある いは､階級､人種､国家という枠組みを語る場合にも有効な分析概念となる。

さらに､上に述べたようなヨーロッパ的現状からの発想に加え､アジア的なローカル･アイデンティティ ーの問題(征服､植民､など…)を加える必要性､さらには多元化した多民族アメリカ社会やその他の 大陸の問題を含めた多様な問題も考慮する必要性がある。

このような体育･スポーツ史の国際的な研究動向からして､わが国においても体育･スポーツ史におけ

るローカルアイデンティティの国際比較研究は不可欠であり、早急にその研究枠組みを明確にする必

要性がある。

2.年次研究計画

本研究では,3年間の研究期間を通じて次の事柄を明らかにしていきたい。

(1)先行しているイギリスやアメリカの体育スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究の資 料収集を行い､現状と問題点,特徴と課題を明らかにする。

(2)アジア諸国(韓国･中国ほか)における体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研 究の現状と問題点,特徴と課題を明らかにする。

(3)わが国における体育スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究の現状と問題点,特徴 と課題を明らかし､上記の国際比較を行うなかで､わが国の立場からの体育･スポーツ史におけるローカ ル･アイデンティティー研究の方向性を具体的に提案する。

3．研究の経過

(1)2001(平成13)年度

2001(平成13)年度は体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究に関する基本文献 の収集と各国地域における研究の現状や課題について情報を収集した。

ことに2001年7月にフランス,モンペリエで開催された国際体育･スポーツ史学会において､英国 (R・Cox氏)、ドイツ(G.Pfister氏)、仏(T.Terret氏)の研究者らとヨーロッパ･アメリカの体育･スポーツ史 におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究に関する研究成果と問題点について議論をかわすなかで，

情報を収集し､かつ意見交換をおこなった｡この結果、各国地域でのローカル･アイデンティティーの概 念､とりわけローカルの意味に差異が見られることが明らかになった。

また2001年8月に中国で開催されたアジア体育･スポーツ史学会において中国(熊暁正)、台湾(察 禎雄)、韓国(羅永一)氏らの研究者とアジア各国の体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティテ ィー研究に関する情報を収集し､かつ意見交換をおこなった｡この結果、日本を除いたアジア諸国では ローカル･アイデンティティーの概念が希薄で､ほとんど研究がされていないこと､仮にあったとしてもナ ショナル･アイデンティティーを明らかにする研究の下位概念として低い評価の中に位置付けられている ことが明らかとなった。

さらに2001年12月台湾師範大学において招待講演を依頼された機会に，日本における体育･スポ ーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究の現状と課題についての連続講演を行った。

また2002年7月に開催される国際体育･スポーツ史学会金沢セミナーに向けて､体育･スポーツ史に おけるローカル･アイデンティティーに関するシンポジウムを企画することとし､その内容やシンポジスト について､同大会組織委員会との企画調整を行った。

(2)2002(平成14)年度

2002(平成14)年度は体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究に関する研究情報

の交換並びにシンポジウム,国際学会等を開催した。

2002年7月に金沢市で第6回国際体育･スポーツ史学会金沢セミナーを開催した｡これには国内から 120名，国外から18ケ国70名の参加者があり，「ローカルアイデンティティーとスポーツ｣をテーマに，

約70題の発表と,キーﾉｰﾄレクチャー,ラウンドテーブルワークショップを行った。

この結果、各国地域でのローカル･アイデンティティーの概念が多様であること,しかしながらそれらは 各国地域のスポーツ史研究に重要な多様性であることが確認された｡この学会開催を通じて特に中国・

台湾･韓国･ネパールなどアジア諸国から約50名に及ぶ初の参加者がみられ,活発な意見交換が行わ れたことが大きな成果となった。

2002年9月に韓国プサンで開催されたアジア大会スポーツ科学者会義,および韓国体育スポーツ史 学会において招待講演を行い，日本の体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティー研究情 報を提供するとともに,その研究の必要性について意見交換をおこなった。日本を除いたアジア諸国で はローカル･アイデンティティーの概念が希薄で､ほとんど研究がされていないこと､仮にあったとしても ナショナル･アイデンティティーを明らかにする研究の下位概念として不当に低く位置付けられているこ との問題点を明らかにしてきた。

2003年2月，台湾師範大学から2名,ソウル大学1名，漢陽大学から1名の体育史研究が金沢大学 を訪問し,又国内からの参加者も加えてアジアにおける体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンテ ィティー研究を促進するためのシンポジウムを行った。

国際体育･スポーツ史学会金沢セミナー報告書の作成に関する企画･編集作業をうとともに，2003 年7月にUrbino(イタリア)で開催される国際体育･スポーツ史学会においてこれまでの成果をまとめて 公表するとともに､今後のさらなる研究継続について関係者と協議を行う準備活動を展開した。

2003年8月に台南(台湾)で開催される東北アジア体育･スポーツ史学会においてこれまでの成果を まとめて公表するとともに､ことに東北アジアにおける今後の研究継続について関係者と協議を行う準 備活動を展開した。

地方教育史学会(2003年5月)、日本体育学会(2003年9月)、体育史専門分科会(2003年9月)、

スポーツ史学会(2003年12月）、など国内外の関連学会を捉えて､積極的な体育･スポーツ史における ローカル･アイデンティティーに関する研究成果を公表するとともに､今後のさらなる研究継続について 関係者と協議を行った。

(3)2003(平成15)年度

2003年(平成15年)度は,｢SportandLocalidentity｣をドイツアカデミア出版社からISHPESStudies ll号として刊行するために,編集,校正作業を行った。

2003年7月にUrbino(イタリア)で開催された国際体育･スポーツ史学会には,SARS流行のため,参

加を取りやめた｡2003年12月に台湾台南市で開催された東北アジア体育･スポーツ史学会で,発表，

座長を務めるとともに,台南師範大学,台湾師範大学(台北)で体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･ア イデンティティ研究の意義と方法に関する講演を行い，日本の体育･スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイ デンティティー研究情報を提供するとともに,台湾に於ける同様な視点からの研究促進について意見交 換をおこなった。

第18回全国地方教育史学会(2003年5月，金沢)において,シンポジウムのパネリストを務め,体育・

スポーツ史におけるローカル･アイデンティティ研究の意義と方法をふまえた教育史研究への提案を行

った。

AllenGuttmannandLeeThompsonhavesuccessfilllyandconvincinglygonebeyondthissomewhat simplisticapproachthatseekStounderstandJapanesesportsandculturemainlyfiFomthepointofview ofthesamuraispirit.Intheiranalysisofthetraditionalandthenewinjapanesesports,they,like RobertBellahin7M昭乙/砲伽b/7(1957)andRuthBenedict,placeimportanceontheindMdual mentality.However,theyalsomakeuseoftheculturaltheoIyofNorbertEliasandPierreBourdieu's conceptofhabitustodescribehowthesportsmentalitywasfbrmedinthecollisionofvariouselements withinsocialandhistoIicalstructures,sportsinJapanbeingtheproductofthoseinteractions.This parallelstheemergenceofconHictingfeelingsofloveandhatetowardsthingstraditionalandthenew aspectsofthemodernizationthattookplaceasthecountlywasfbrciblyWesternizedfbllowingthe arrivalofAdmiralPerry'sG6blackships"in1853,whichshookthecountIyoutofpeacefillisolationofthe TokugawapeIiod.ThispointhasbeenmadebefbreinthefieldofJapaneSehistory,butthisisitsfirst appearanceinthehistoryofsportsinjapan.

FromthisperspectiveGuttmannandThompsonusethepivotaleventsofthearrivaloftheblackships

(1853)andtheendofthewarinAsiaandthePacific(1945)todMdetheworkintothreeperiods.

Japan'straditionalsportswerefbrmedbefbrethearrivaloftheblackships,andthehistoIyofthe developmentofsumo,kemari,themartialarts,c力放aI圏ｮ〃andothersportsisrelatedinPartl.Part2 tellsthestoryoftheeVentsthatfbllowedtheblackships,describingtheprocessesofmodernizationthat tookplaceamidstthelove‑haterelationshipwithAmericaandEurope.Topicsdiscussedhereinclude t h e m o d e r n i z i n g t r a n s f b r m a t i o n s o f t h e t r a d i t i o n a l s p o r t s d e s c I i b e d i n P a r t l , t h e i n t r o d u c t i o n a n d a c c e p t a n c e o f W e s t e r n s p o r t s , t h e f l o u r i s h i n g o f s p o r t s d u I i n g T a i s h o d e m o c r a c y a n d u n d e r f a s c i s m , p h y s i c a l e d u c a t i o n i n t h e s c h o o l s , a m a t e u r s p o r t s , a n d t h e i n t r o d u c t i o n o f p r o f e s s i o n a l s p o r t s .
