　性差、というものがこの世にはある。

男女という、謂わば最もシンプルな”差”の存在。人間だけでなく万物、それこそあなたの足下に生えてる 植物にも存在するもの。あらゆる”差”の始祖と言っても良いだろう。

　西暦にして2011年、この島の年号では平成23年。表現文化は個人的には非常に危機的な状況にあると思う。

何故って、”交わり”や”繋がり”がとことん否定されてるようなシーンだから。

ブルースも、ジャズも、いや民謡だって。あらゆる音楽や芸術は”違う”何かとの交わりにより新たな進化を 遂げてきた。狭い輪の中で花咲く芸術もあるが、徒花として咲き、消えていく運命だ。

民族や人種、国境が常に”交わり”の壁であったのは前世紀の話だ。ネットワークの進化は世界と個人を繋ぎ 今や日本の片田舎とハリウッドさえも一直線に、ダイレクトに繋いでしまう。すばらしい事だと思う。

だが、功績の一方で罪過もある。いつだって良い事と悪い事はイーブンだ。この革命的な進化の裏で起こった 新たな断絶、それはリアルにおける隣近所、実生活における他者との交わりの衰退である。

　同じもの――もっと言えば何かのイコンに寄りすがっている輪の中に居ると安全で気分もいい。

誰も自分を責めないし、誰も面倒なしがらみや押し付けをしてくる事もない（但し、その輪の禁忌を犯した 時は魔女狩りさながらの糾弾が待っているが）。結果人々はオフラインの断絶という病に侵された。

同じところで同じタイミングで笑える人々のコミュニティ、何だか初期のコンピュータゲームの世界だ。

　だが、その中でもまるで羽根でも生えてるのかというくらいに壁を「ひょい」と飛び越えてしまう人もいる。

僕にとってそういう人や、そういう人の創るものは非常に大切なものなのだが一方で稀少なものでもある。

Aliasというバンドは、僕にとってそんな存在だ。

　Aliasは男3女3で構成され、メンバーは日本と中国とＮＹをそれぞれ活動拠点にしている。

ホームも経歴も、見た目からおそらく性格も（笑　相当バラバラな６人。個人的には彼らを一週間くらい 合宿させてどうなるか観察したいくらいである。結成後Webを拠点に活動を開始、処女作の『evermore』が いきなりMySpaceうたフルダウンロードランキング初登場1位に輝き、幸先の良いスタートを切った。

カテゴライズ不能なサウンド、Mai嬢の唄、目まぐるしい構成でリスナーに熱狂を持って迎えられる。

　各々多忙の中時を置いて発表された２作目『ツメタイナミダ』もMySpaceモバイルアクセスランキング 初登場1位と好評を博し、遂に今回のミニアルバムの制作へと至ったというわけだ。

　彼らのユニークを語るときに欠かせないのが”二胡”の存在。所謂ロックバンドのスタンダードな担当 楽器構成に”二胡”を加えた編成である。ツインヴォーカルのように鳴る二胡の存在が彼らの音を一聴して 唯一無二のものにしているが、もう少し深く音に潜り込んでみると、更にユニークな顔が見えてくる。

彼らのMySpaceやFacebookを見るとわかるのだが、ファン層は本当にワールドワイドだ。

日本より海外での支持が早かったとも本人達も言っている。

決して「フジヤマ・ゲイシャ」でも無ければ似非オリエンタルでも無い彼らが何故、海外のリスナーに 支持されるのか――？　僕の考えではそれが先述の”交わり”では無いかと思うのだ。

性差を超えるようなMai嬢の歌声と、ジャンルを飛び越えるサウンドと楽曲。そこに今の音楽が忘れている 可能性を、誰もが見出しているのではないだろうか、と。

黙示録的な冒頭が印象的なこの大曲を一曲目に持ってくる辺り、バンドの挑戦を感じずにはいられない。

とにかく各楽器が歌うこと歌うこと。そして一丸となったサウンドを一つに纏め上げる

Mai

嬢の唄。

クールな印象の強いバンドイメージを自ら破壊する強烈な一曲。

2. ツメタイナミダ

ハードな印象から一転、絹のようなタッチのポップチューンの２

シングル曲。

この曲で僕なんかは一つ物語が創れてしまう（笑　それくらいロマンスを感じる良曲である。

ラストの二胡とピアノの掛け合いがこれまた素晴らしい。

3. the World is mine

NW調のサウンドと自省的な歌唱が個性的な一曲。内省的な歌詞もNWっぽい。

まさかの８ビットサウンドとノイズの多用に個人的には一番驚いた曲（笑

ギターもアルバム中一番荒々しく鳴っており、Aliasサウンドの多面性を垣間見せる。

4. Here

Aliasの楽曲は全体的に「夜」を感じるものが多いと個人的には思うのだが、この曲はそんな彼らには

珍しく緑に包まれた昼や水辺での夕暮れを感じさせる、少し切ない印象の楽曲。

いつもは大きく包み込むような

Mai

嬢の唄声も、どこか等身大の少女を思わせる響きで改めて歌い手と しての懐の深さを感じる。

5. evermore

いまどきこういう例えは宜しく無いのかも知れないが、断固主張したい。「これはプログレだ」と！

マクロでありミクロな世界観、目まぐるしい中にも物語性を含んだ展開、こういう楽曲がもっと 世に出てほしいと切に願う一曲。彼らのデビュー曲でもあり看板曲の一つでもあるだろう。

6. 巡（Meguru）

巡るものは生であり死であり、時や悲喜でもあるのだろう。

日本に住む私たちを襲った悲劇に捧げたというこの曲では全ての音が祈るように厳粛である。

Mai嬢の唄も個と個を繋げる媒介のように響く。聴くと「あの」光景が目に浮かぶ、

視覚的な音楽でもあると言えるだろう。

7. Lament(Instrumental)

哀歌、哀悼などの意味を持つ曲名のピアノインストでアルバムは幕を閉じる。

だが紡がれる音には憐憫や陶酔は無く、細いながらも強固な意志が宿っている。

運命を受け入れたうえでのセンチメンタリズム、とでも言おうか。

挿入されるメロディが告げるのは、すべての唄に共通する無言のメッセージなのかも知れない。

　さて、長々と書いてしまったが最後に大事な事を。

彼らは決して大上段に構えた芸術家気取りでも無ければ偶像を演じる道化でもない。

あるがままの姿で音楽を奏でる、自然体こそがその本領であり結実した音楽は だからこそこんなにも美しく、凛としている。
