Introduction

During the period from February to  May 1975‑1977, a large  number  of  larvae  and  pupae of the two species of simuliids were collected in slowly running stream flowing under  the Yoda Terrace situated i

bihiro.  1n the specimens of reared adults, associated pupal  skins and larvae, the  one  is  allied  to Cnetha  subcoslalum (TAHASI)

(=

Eusimulium  subcostatum A HASI)and the other to  C. uchidai (TAKAHASI) (=E. uchid

TAKAHASI).

However, these tWQ species can be distinguished from any other species

variable  pigmentation  of  larval head capsule and cocoon.  C. uchidai and C. subcostatum are widly  distributed  in  Japan and Korea.  In Hokkaido both species are commonly fnund on small  streams  from  mountainous regions to  plain regions, and the adults are collected from May to  November,

but the present two new species are found on the special habitat  of  small  and  spring.fed  streams which flow into the swamp under the terrace, and the adults app ronly in  April  to  June.  In this  paper, full  description of the two new species  are  given  together  with  some biological notes.
