Editorʼs Note  

To mark the beginning of this new century,the Committee of the Editorial Board has decided to change the style and the cover  design of the Jikeikai Medical Journal. This also commemorates the 150 anniversary of the birth of Baron Kanehiro Takaki,the founder of our medical School . The year 2001 also marked the 120 anniversary of the establishment of the Jikei University School of Medicine. The Jikeikai Medical Journal has been the offici al journal of the SEIIKWAI:The Society for the Advancement of Medical Science  in Japan since 1880. The new style of the Journal,with its new cover design and s ize,is now published in an international standard. It is now also available electroni cally as an e‑mail publication.

The Editorial Board is committed to improving the Journal,not only on its design,but more importantly in its content. This is  contingent on all the participants,with a dedication to the highest quality of resear ch and manuscripts.
