Prevention in Social Work:

Preventive Practice for Elder Abuse in Montreal

Abstract:

Preventive support is focused in the integrated community care at present. This study shows concept of prevention in social work and examines viewpoints of supporting network and approach in a community practice while focusing on the preventive practice for elder abuse. I indicated the process and factors of approaches after hearing from workers of preventive practice and attending the community programs in Cavendish District, Montreal. The process includes needs catch, intervention and continuous support. The preventive approaches include factors of sensitizing and education, early detection and screening, care for risk factors, empowerment. Especially focusing on potential needs, symptoms and risk factors is important for preventing intensification.
