This volume contains edited versions of papers presented at the second ASEAN-Japan Research Institute Meeting (AJRIM) and the International Symposium, held in Tokyo on July 22-23, 2003, hosted by the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE- JETRO).
We are indebted to Chalongphob Sussangkarn, who served as co-chair of the Tokyo meeting and the symposium, and to Masaki Ishikawa, Fumihiko Kato, and Keiichi Kimura for their suggestions and support for AJRIM. We also thank Tomoko Kubota for her efforts in making conference arrangements and doing editorial work to prepare this volume for publication.
