Chapter 6: Sizes of waste treatment and social networks between the waste treatment sites and the local communities…145

6.3 Conclusion

6.3.3 Further researches

At the end, this research studies the process of local acceptance for waste treatment sites.

This research focuses on finding the factors, analysing factor constraints, and operation of factors.

However, this research also considers some points that need to develop in next research. This research starts from the local community and stops at the national policy level to show how national policy constraints the size; it discusses the chained effect for local acceptance. The future

research might go further and explain how global factors, such as the booming of 3Rs business or regulation of overseas countries, can affect local acceptance. Moreover, a comparison of local acceptance between different countries might allow us to understand local condition in different countries. In other cultures, the informal social network might not function as a channel to distribute resource or exchange information, and in contrast, some culture might can use only informal social network to create local acceptance. The comparison also will bring us other model of informal social networks which can create local acceptance between the waste treatment site and local communities. Lastly, the framework of local acceptance analysis in research might be adapted to study other issues related with communities, especially environmental issues or public service sites, such as sewage treatment centre, national parks, or water management. The factor of the other issues might not be cost-benefit factors. Therefore, constraints of factors and operation at local community might be different from this research. However, by any kinds of perspective and methods, local acceptance studies will help our society to create coexist between local communities and development projects, and help to promote the concept of local acceptance as a criterion of successful projects.
