Chapter 1 Introduction

1.5 Dissertation structure

The structure of the dissertation is illustrated in Figure 25. As depicted in the figure, five chapters are included in the dissertation and organized as follow: Chapter 1 (the current chapter, conclude 5 sections) introduces the background, literature review, objective and significance of the research from section 1 to section 4, and briefly describes the dissertation structure in section 5. Chapter 2 explores the relationship between the SES, mental health and NLTC among the Japanese elderly by using the

longitudinal database. Chapter 3 investigates the association between the SES, mental health and NLTC among the Tibetan elderly using the cross-sectional database. In Chapter 4, we assess the correlation between the SES, mental health and NLTC among the Chinese Korean elderly also by using the cross-sectional database. Finally, Chapter 5 provides the brief conclusion and implications of the study, and the research limitations and the future research are also included in this chapter.
