Development of control methods

7.2 Recommendations for Future Work

7.2.2 Development of control methods

Controllers that realizes station-keeping, formation flying, and orbit-attitude simultaneous control were developed in this dissertation. Further development of control strategies that are useful for practical missions is warranted. Some recommendations are as follows:

• Extension of the dynamical system is of much interest. One of the extensions is to incorporate disturbances and uncertainty into the dynamical system of the CRTBP.

In practice, missions and controllers are necessary to handle disturbances, and the derived strategies would provide basic solutions to incorporate real circumstances.

One development to be considered is to built robust controllers to accommodate the disturbances, and it will be useful to apply the robust output regulation theory [95].

Another extension is to discretized the CRTBP system and build corresponding discrete controllers. Because discrete systems are more practical than continuous systems, the CRTBP system should be discrete. This development may be achieved on the basis of the output regulation theory for discrete systems [110]. Yet another extension is to convert the CRTBP system into more practical models, such as the ERTBP and the ephemeris model, which are non-autonomous systems. The method developed in this dissertation cannot be extended directly to stricter models because an output regulation theory for non-autonomous systems has not been established thus far. Therefore development of the output regulation theory for non-autonomous systems is necessary to apply our procedures to such systems.

• The control input model can be converted into a more practical model. Considering

7.2. Recommendations for Future Work 135 practical missions, the control input should be discrete and the magnitude of the control should be constant. Thus, a further development is to build controllers that satisfies the control input constraints. Moreover, because some thrusters and actuators would sometimes fail in practical missions, development of underactuated controllers is also warranted towards contribute to extending the mission lifetime of spacecraft.
