Worst erosion is downstream of Lewis Avenue and midway to Columbus Avenue. Already eroded down to base/bedrock but banks are vertical and 15-20ft high; both upstream and downstream culverts under road crossings function as channel bed grade controls that are limiting potential channel incision and headcut migration. Observations at downstream crossings do not indicate excessive sedimentation but fairly stable channel beds and wetland-like channel habitat; most sediment appears to be hung up between culverts upstream of Fremont Avenue and no chronic erosion observed in channel downstream of Fremont Ave.

creek restoration chronic stream bank erosion about 300ft-long along residential properties upstream of a large wetland complex; channel is starting to recover/aggrade and banks are nearing more stable angles
-122.408428 48.776396 Project would require easements from 2 parcels and along approx 300LF of stream, in order to address destabilizing channel downstream of Hillsdale Rd and upstream of the wetland.

circulation, floating wetland, revegetation, stormwater retrofit options
asphalt spillway forces ponding upstream of crossing;
downstream of crossing is lake influenced; circulation, floating wetland, revegetation, stormwater retrofit options could help water quality
-122.416398 48.755120 Project would be within City of Bellingham. This site is a 1.5 acre wetland/freshwater pond NWI class of "Palustrine Unconsolidated Bottom". Does City/County have existing plans to improve water quality here?

Coronado Creek Near Lewis Ave and Coronado Ave
228-233 4822-4835 Maybe med most erosion already occurred; access to steep, incised stream challenging

creek restoration

Observations at downstream crossings do not indicate excessive sedimentation but fairly stable channel beds and wetland-like channel habitat; most sediment appears to be hung up between culverts upstream of Fremont Avenue and no chronic erosion observed in channel downstream of Fremont Ave
-122.393181 48.739972 Access would be complicated and project would significantly disturb existing mature vegetation. Channel bed has already incised down to bedrock and the majority of the active channel erosion has already occurred; but the project could help to stabilize the steep, eroding, 20ft-high left/west bank where there is access from Coronado, along approx. 150 LF of stream.

Austin Creek Within Sudden Valley Golf Course
237-241 4890-4920 Yes high Priority subbasin area in Lake Whatcom 2015-2019 Work Plan; all project conducted w/in golf course
Channel, bank, riparian restoration along bare banks within golf course
bank is confined by golf course and lack of riparian vegetation;
historically much of golf course within alluvial fan of Austin Creek; project could be over 4000LF to restore entire length;
lake backwater (and thus lacustrine habitat) extends about 1200-1500LF upstream of confluence with stream
-122.330853 48.713075 Entire project would occur within the Sudden Valley Golf course, so coordination and easements required; bank setbacks,
bench/floodplain reconnection/establishment, revegetation and wood placement could occur along up to 3025 LF of stream here;
an additional downstream 1500LF along lacustrine habitat could benefit from bank setbacks and revegetation to reduce bank sloughing associated with lake water level rising and falling
