moderate precipitation. The San-in area, bordering the Japan Sea, has considerably fewer snow days and less snowfall than the Hokuriku area.
When dividing the Chugoku area in two, the San-in area (Tottori and Shimane prefectures) has slightly lower temperatures, fewer daylight hours, and more snowfall precipitation in the winter than the Sanyo area (Okayama,
Hiroshima, Yamaguchi prefectures). In the Sanyo area, the precipitation is light during winter and the air tends to be dry. However, the climate on the western coast of the Japan Sea, where Hamada city is located, is similar to the Sanyo area.
中国地域は、概して温暖で降水量も適度であ る。日本海側をみても、山陰は北陸に比べて 積雪日数がかなり少なく、豪雪も少ない。
中国地域を大きく分けてみると、山陰は山陽 に比べて気温がやや低く、日照時間が短く、積 雪などで冬に降水量が多い。山陽は冬に降水 量が少なく空気が乾燥しやすい。しかし、山陰 でも浜田市など日本海沿岸の西部地域では、
気候的に山陽に近い面もある。
