東京マラソン車いす招待選手―国内男子
オートバイ事故で脊髄を損傷し、車いすでの生活になった吉田 竜太は、その後車いすマラソンで頭角を現すようになる。2013 年に は競技活動に専念できる環境を求め SUS 株式会社に入社した。
2015 年 4 月に行われた IPC 世界選手権のマラソンでは、1 時間 35 分 35 秒で 11 位に、5 月のソウル国際車いすマラソンでは、1 時間 27 分 38 秒の自己ベストで 4 位に入っている。10 月のシカゴマラソ ンでは 14 位、11 月の大分国際車いすマラソンでは 10 キロ過ぎに先 頭集団から引き離され 1 時間 32 分 10 秒で 8 位に終わった。しか し、12 月のホノルルマラソンでは副島に次ぎ 1 時間 33 分 29 秒で 2 位と躍進。東京マラソンでは 2015 年に 3 位、そして 2017 年には 4 位と好記録を続けている。2017 年のボストンマラソンでは 11 位だっ たが、自己ベストを更新。2017 年ベルリンマラソンで 3 位、シカゴ マラソンでは 8 位に入っており、今年の東京マラソンでは過去最高 の成績である 3 位以上を目指す。
Injured his spinal cord in a motorcycle accident, Ryota Yoshida became wheelchair bound. However, later Yoshida start to excel at the wheelchair marathons. In 2013, in pursuit of ideal environment to concentrate on the competitions, Yoshida joined SUS Corporation.
In April at the 2015 IPC World Championships Marathon, Yoshida was 11th with 1:35:35. In May at the Seoul International Wheelchair Marathon he was fourth in his personal best of 1:27:38. In October, he was 14th at the Chicago Marathon. In the Oita International Wheelchair Marathon Yoshida lost contact with the leader after 10km and finished eighth with 1:32:10. In the Honolulu Marathon in December, Yoshida finished second to Soejima with 1:33:29. In the Tokyo Marathon Yoshida has done well - third in 2015 and 4th in 2017. In the 2017 Boston Marathon he was only 11th, but Yoshida improved his personal best. Also in 2017, Yoshida was 3rd in the Berlin Marathon and 8th in the Chicago Marathon. For Yoshida top two spots will be his best placing in Tokyo.
生後間もない 8 カ月の時、交通事故で脊髄を損傷した鈴木朋 樹は、物心ついたときから車いすの生活だった。小学 5 年生の時、
2012 年パラリンピック車いすマラソン 5 位の花岡伸和と出会い、本 格的に車いすレースに参加するようになる。2015 年東京マラソンで、
初マラソンに挑み、1 時間 30 分 23 秒で 2 位に入ったのだ。10 月 の IPC 世界選手権では、5000m では 22 位に入っているが、800m でも、そして 1500m でも決勝に進めなかった。しかし彼のレース での果敢な闘志は高く評価されている。2 度目のマラソンとなった 2015 年 11 月の大分国際車いすマラソンでは最初から積極的に飛ば したが、1 時間 36 分 16 秒で 9 位に終わった。12 月の日産カップハー フマラソンでは 2015 年、2016 年と2 連勝している。しかし、リオデジャ ネイロパラリンピック代表選考レースだった 2016 年の東京マラソン は 5 位で代表から漏れた。翌 2017 年の東京マラソンでは 3 位、そ して 2015 年には 2 位に入っている鈴木にないのは優勝だけである。
Soon after his birth, eight month old Tomoki Suzuki injured his spinal cord in the traffic accident, and thus became wheelchair bound. When he was in fifth grade, Suzuki met with Nobukazu Hanaoka, who was fifth at the wheelchair marathon in the 2012 Paralympics, and he started to compete seriously in the wheelchair races. Suzuki made his marathon debut in the Tokyo Marathon 2015 and finished second with 1:30:23. In October, Suzuki competed at the IPC World Championships and finished 22nd at 5000m, but failed to advance to the final in both 800m and 1500m. However, his aggressive racing style was highly praised. In his second marathon, Oita International WheelchairMarathon in November, Suzuki started the race in quite an aggressive pace, but faded in the later part of the race to finish ninth with 1:36:16. Suzuki twice won the December’s Nissan Cup, half marathon race, in 2015 and 2016. He was fifth in the Tokyo Marathon 2016, the qualifying race for the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics Marathon, and thus missed making the team.
Suzuki was third in the Tokyo Marathon 2017 and second in 2015 and thus only a victory at the Tokyo Marathon is missing from his resume.

2011 年、19 歳の時に交通事故に遭い、車いすの生活になった渡 辺勝は、入院中に車いす陸上を勧められた。最初はあまり興味を持 てなかったが、「初めて車いすレースで坂道を下った時、そのスピー ド感にはまってしまった」と話す。それから 2 年後の 2013 年、IPC 世界選手権に出場し、10000m で銀メダル、マラソンで 8 位入賞を 果した。翌年の 2014 年アジアパラ大会では、車いすの改良が裏目 に出てメダルなしに結果に。2015 年 IPC 世界選手権ではマラソン に出場せず、5000m で 15 位に終わった。翌年のリオパラリンピック では代表に漏れたが、世界を驚かせたのが 2017 年の東京マラソン である。2016 年にボストンマラソン、ロンドンマラソン、ベルリンマラ ソン、シカゴマラソンそしてニューヨークシティマラソンを制したマル セル・フグと死闘を演じ、最後のスプリントで競り勝ったのだ。その 後、2017 年シカゴマラソンで 4 位、ニューヨークシティマラソンで は 3 位に入っている。「（マラソン）で世界一になりたいのではなく、
世界一になる」と意気込む渡辺は、今年の東京マラソンでは 2007 年、
2008 年、2009 年に 3 連覇を成し遂げた副島レースディレクター以 来となる連覇を目指す。
When he was 19 years old in 2011, Sho Watanabe was in a traffic accident and became wheelchair bound. While still in hospital, he was persuaded to compete in the wheelchair events. Initially, he was not interested. However, “when I went down the slope with a wheelchair for the first time, I was hooked with its speed,” explained Watanabe. Two years later in 2013, Watanabe competed in the IPC World Championships and won a silver medal at 10000m and finished eighth in the marathon. Next year in the Asian Paralympics, adjustment to his wheelchair backfired and thus he failed to win a medal. In the 2015 IPC World Championships, he was 15th at 5000m, but did not compete at the marathon. He failed to qualify for the Rio Paralympics in 2016, but shocked everyone in the Tokyo Marathon 2017. Watanabe battled all the way to the finish line with Marcel Hug, who won the Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City Marathons in 2016, and defeated Hug in the final sprint. Later in the year, Watanabe was 4th in the Chicago Marathon, 3rd in the New York City Marathon. “I say, I will be the world best, not I want to be the world best,” explains Watanabe. If Sho Watanabe successfully defends the Tokyo Marathon title he will be the first to do so since Soejima wheelchair race director won the Tokyo Marathon from 2007 to 2009.
